A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC CABLE DISTRIBUTION
THE O.C. SIZZLES WITH WOMEN FOR THE WEEK: TOP 5 F12-17, TOP 10 F12-34, TOP 15 F18-34 THE O.C. CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 9, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. CBS has ordered two more seasons of Survivor, bringing the total up to 14 seasons, both airing during the 2006/07 season. Any guesses on where the next one will be? I’m thinking Antarctica would be pretty wild. Tonight’s Premieres: * MORE GOOD STUFF *Cable network Monsters HD, one of the 10 hi-def channels available thru VOOM HD and dedicated to the horror and creature feature category, has signed an extensive film package deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution beginning this year. The 44-title package includes many classics pictures like the restored version of the 1933 film King Kong, and if that’s not enough add to that RKO’s Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young. All the films will air uncut, uninterrupted and in high def. Other titles include Salem’s Lot, Children of the Corn, Poltergeist, as well as stop-motion films such as Clash of the Titans, Black Scorpion and When Dinosaur’s Ruled the Earth. More info available on this network at www.monstershd.com. The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee will convene a public forum on November 29 with Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) heading, to discuss “indecent content” on television, and how to limit it and how to set the boundaries on fines. You’ll recall the House of Representatives back in the earlier part of this year voted to up the fines of any and all infractions from $32,500 per violation to as high as $500,000 per violation. To date, the Senate has not acted on that legislation. Invited to participate on November 29 will be TV content providers and broadcast and cable network representatives. With all the programming you can now download onto your cellphone, it probably makes sense that The Wireless Association, known as CTIA, has voted to adopt voluntary rules that will restrict the downloading of adult content to a wireless devices – cellphone or otherwise. According to Broadcasting & Cable, carriers on board with the new rules include Sprint, Verizon, Cingular and T-Mobile. Additionally, the carriers have all agreed not to offer content directed to adults only, until the proper controls have been put into action, which include empower users to block full categories of materials from being downloaded. VH1‘s season finale of My Fair Brady aired last Sunday evening at 9p and earned a 1.2 rating in the A18-49 demo, with an average of 1.8 million total viewers. According to VH1, the finale was the #1 non-sports program of the day, and also delivered the highest rating among A25-34 for the day with a 2.2. For its entire season, My Fair Brady averaged a .8 A18-49 rating. Correction : Yesterday’s edition incorrectly said A&E picked up Outback House from Australia-based ABC Enterprises. Not so fast. It was an A&E Networks Television acquisition for History International. History International has not announced a start date. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Lifetime has given the go-ahead to Lovespring, a 30m comedy from Big Cattle Prods. with an order for six episodes, according to Variety. The project is set in a matchmaking service. An abrupt casting change on the set of Desperate Housewives. New to the cast actor Page Kennedy who played the mysterious guy Caleb in the basement on Wisteria Lane, has been fired due to “improper conduct”. While no details have been made available, Touchstone Television conducted a full investigation of the allegations resulting in Kennedy’s dismissal. The role of Caleb will be recast. Court TV has ordered up a second season of Parco PI from MarkMark Prods, the reality series which follows the Parco family in their work as private investigators in New York City. Court TV has ordered 13 episodes, according to Hollywood Reporter. Comedy Central has greenlit Drawn Together for a third season, which so far in its second season is averaging 2.1 million viewers on Wednesdays at 1030p, following South Park. The network has ordered 14 new eps for next season. Drawn Together is the first and thus far the only animated reality show, with animated characters all sharing one roof. E! will come back with another season of Dr. 90210, with an order for 13 more eps that will kick off on November 28. NBC has picked up another Jerry Bruckheimer project called The Business, a father/son team of private detectives in Los Angeles. According to Variety, Sheldon Turner will write the script, while Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman are billed as exec producers for Warner Bros. TV. * EXECUTIVE MOVES *TV One has recently expanded its advertising sales team. Lisabeth Hayes, based in the Chicago office, has been promoted to SVP/Advertising Sales and Marketing, adding official oversight of the New York Sales team to her day-to-day responsibilities. Elverage Allen has been named Senior Account Director/Ad Sales in Chicago. MTV Networks Music/Logo/Films has appointed Nancy Newman to EVP/ Strategy and Organizational Planning. She will play a key role in the evolution of MTV Network’s music and Logo brands as they develop new media frontiers, as well as establish new brands and businesses under the MTV Networks Music/Logo Group. Nancy reports directly to President Van Toffler and will be based at the company’s New York headquarters. Ashley Smith has joined Turner Network Television as Director/Marketing. In this role, she is responsible for marketing the network’s new series launches, the Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation films and other entertainment initiatives. Ashley is based in Atlanta and reports to Vicky Free, VP/Entertainment Marketing for TNT. After seven and half years with Sundance Channel, Adam Pincus is leaving his position as SVP/Original Programming, to become an independent producer. He will continue to work with the network in his new capacity. Cary Silver has been upped to VP/Production at Mike Young Productions (MYP). Cary has been with MYP for the past six years and will continue as producer on several MYP series. He will report to Mike Young, Bill Schultz and Liz Young, and work with them on current productions as well as development of international co-productions. Nancy Palmero, syndicator for TVS, passed away last Friday after a short illness. Nancy lived in New Jersey and worked with Berl Rotfeld on Greatest Sports Legends for many years. During the past several years she had been an invaluable asset to TVS. Nancy’s love of gardening made her a natural for the syndication expansion of P. Allen Smith Gardens. She spearheaded that series as well as other TVS lifestyle projects such as George Hirsch Living It Up! and Junk’d. * RATINGS *Top Ten Basic Cable Ad Supported Network Rankings among Total Viewers for the week of 10/31-11/6/05: Top Ten Basic Cable Ad Supported Network Rankings among A18-49 for the week of 10/31-11/6/05: Top 10 Cable Programs among A18-49 (000) for the week of week of 10/31-11/6/05 Top 10 Broadcast Programs among A18-49 (000) for the week of OCT 31-NOV 6, 2005: Nov Sweep: Day #5 – Monday — A18-49 Analysis: Monday night was all about ABC, soundly winning every hour of primetime, according to the fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research.
