Cynopsis: Kids!
11/30/11

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 30, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

CTIA – The Wireless Association ( www.ctia.org ) and the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) unveils its new mobile app rating system, which will feature the age rating icons that ESRB ( www.esrb.org ) uses to help guide consumers, particularly parents, when purchasing computer and video games  you know – eC (Early Childhood), E (Everyone), E10+ (Everyone 10+), T (Teen) and so forth.  At launch the new app rating system is being voluntarily supported and used in the storefronts of six founding partners, AT&T, Microsoft, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, US Cellular and Verizon Wireless, with other storefronts having expressed interest in joining in.  In order to receive an rating for an app, when developers submit their app to a participating storefront all they have to do is fill out a “detailed yet quick multiple choice questionnaire” to help assess the apps content and thus what age group it might be best suited.  Once an app gets a rating, it will receive an identifying code that can be used when submitting the app to other storefronts to avoid going through the process again.  To make sure the ratings that are handed out are appropriate, ESRB will routinely test the most popular apps, adjusting ratings where necessary, as well as monitor consumer complaints.  Developers and storefronts will be kept in the loop if and when changes are made.  For their part, developers will need to re-submit their apps if they update or modify its content in a way that might affect its rating.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) begins production on and is set to make distribution deals for the new wildlife TV game show Bindi’s Bootcamp (26×25), hosted 13-year-old Bindi Irwin (Bindi: The Jungle Girl), the daughter of the late wildlife expert/conservationist Steve Irwin.
