~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

AMC handed two pilot orders for scripted dramas Halt & Catch Fire and Turn.  Production on both projects will commence in 2013.  Halt & Catch Fire is set in the early 1980s and dramatizes the personal computing boom and culture in Texas’ Silicon Prairie through the eyes of a visionary engineer and prodigy whose innovations confront the corporate giants of the time.  Chris Cantwell and Chris Rodgers created the drama that is produced by AMC Studios.  Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein from Gran Via Productions serve as EPs.  Turn is based on the book Washington’s Spies by Alexander Rose and is set in the summer of 1778 and relates the story of New York farmer, Abe Woodhull who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who help America’s fight for independence.  Turn is also from AMC Studios and is being written by showrunner Craig Silverstein and executive produced by Barry Josephson from Josephson Entertainment.

Bravo heads to Atlanta as the network moves forward with two new series focused on life in the Southern city.  Married to Medicine goes inside the medical world of Atlanta led by a group of powerful women who set the rules of society.  Married to Medicine is produced by FremantleMedia North America and developed by Purveyors of Pop with Matt Anderson, Nate Green and Maty Buss serving as EPs.  The second Atlanta-based series, Taking Atlanta (wt) follows a group of aspiring and ambitious Atlanta locals who fight to succeed in their careers, look for love and enjoy what “The New South” has to offer.  Taking Atlanta (wt) is produced by NFGTV and Monami Entertainment with Toby Barraud, Stefan Springman and Mona Scott-Young as EPs.  Bravo also has renewed its series Don’t Be Tardy (wt) for a second season following Atlanta Housewife Kim Zolciak.  Don’t Be Tardy (wt) is produced by True Entertainment with Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh, Lauren Eskelin and Colleen Sands serving as EPs.

ABC’s comedy pilot Trophy Wife cast Natalie Morales (White Collar) to play Meg, a hard-partying and promiscuous woman who always is on the lookout for an eligible guy.  Morales joins Bradley Whitford and Malin Ackerman in the single-camera comedy from Private Practice’s Emily Halpern and SuperNews’ Sarah Haskins.

D.B. Sweeney is reuniting with his 24 co-star Kiefer Sutherland as he booked a recurring role on the second season of FOX’s Touch.  Sweeney will play Tanner, a threatening, forceful ex-military guy who is an enforcer for Aster Corps.  Touch premieres February 1 at 9p on FOX.

Kimberly Williams, who is currently guest starring on ABC’s Nashville, has been given the option to become a series regular if the show is renewed for a second season.  Williams plays Peggy, a woman from Teddy’s past whose involvement in his sketchy financial dealings may bring down his mayoral campaign.  In real life Williams lives in Nashville with her husband, country star Brad Paisley.

Former Days of Our Lives cast member Matt Cedeno was cast in a recurring role on the upcoming Lifetime series Devious Maids.  The new drama from Marc Cherry follows four Beverly Hills-based housekeepers (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes) who have big dreams of their own.  Cedeno joins as a recording artist returning home after a long tour.  Melinda Page Hamilton is also joining Devious Maids playing a conniving housekeeper.  If the series gets a second season order, both Cedeno and Hamilton will be bumped to series regulars.
