Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 1, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
This statement was provided by NGC just a couple of hours before we went to press this morning:
- “A crew on assignment for the National Geographic Channel (NGC) embedded with a U.S. Army Special Forces unit in Afghanistan was injured on Saturday, October 28 when a vehicle in their convoy struck a landmine. Executive producer Steven Hoggard of the Washington, D.C.-area based Hoggard films and a Washington, D.C. crew of one cameraman and one soundman were filming the convoy when a vehicle in front of them hit a landmine. Based on the latest unconfirmed information, both Steven and the cameraman suffered non-life threatening injuries … Steven was airlifted to Germany, and the cameraman is being treated and expected to be flown to the U.S. for additional treatment by the end of the week. The soundman was unharmed from the blast, and is still filming in Afghanistan. Both are expected to recover. Information on soldiers involved in the incident will be released by the Department Of Defense. The crew arrived in Afghanistan October 25 and was embedded with Special Forces filming the special Inside the Green Berets for NGC.”

The Tennis Channel will in turn market the mobile game via television ads now through first quarter of 2008, on web banners and promotionally through its web site thetennischannel.com, as well as at marketing events and the cable network’s newsletter. Kuma Reality Games, a publisher/developer of episodic videogames, and The History Channel have joined to develop gaming and TV content. The partnership gets underway this Friday, November 3, with the simultaneous launch of season two of The History Channel series Shootout! and Kuma’s release of corresponding videogames online, so viewers/gamers can watch the show first and then go online to play 3D CGI animated videogames featuring a re-creation of the same historical event from the TV show. In this new season, episodes of the game are directly based on three historical events featured on the series: Iwo Jima, Battle of the Bulge and the Tet Offensive. The online games will be available for download from www.historychannel.com for free immediately after each episode airs. The goal of the joint TV/videogame effort is to provide viewers/players with the experience of being in the midst of a battle through the eyes of those who actually participated in the event.
