Good morning. It’s Wednesday, May 2, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
The Hub is set to host the return of the Care Bears, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, to TV with the premiere of the new CG animated series Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot on Saturday, June 2 at 8a. The network’s website, www.hubworld.com, will feature Care Bears games, and activities, videos, video clips, and full length episodes of the new series. Based on the original Care Bears property, which debuted in 1982, the new Care Bears series is produced by American Greetings Properties, the outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corporation.
Disney XD is set to premiere its new CG animated series Tron: Uprising, which takes place between Disney’s original Tron movie (1982) and its more recent feature film Tron: Legacy (2010), this summer. Disney Channel will debut Tron: Uprising, Beck’s Beginning, a 30-minute uninterrupted special prelude to the new series on Friday, May 18 at 9:30p. The special will then run (also uninterrupted) on Disney XD on Monday, May 21 at 7p, followed by the Tron: Uprising series launch on Thursday, June 7 at 9p. The voice cast for Tron: Uprising stars Elijah Wood, Bruce Boxleitner, Mandy Moore, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Reginald VelJohnson, Paul Reubens and Tricia Helfer. Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series is executive-produced and directed by Charlie Bean (Robotboy, Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls) with Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz (both screenwriters of Tron: Legacy, executive producers of Lost and Once Upon a Time) and Justin Springer (co-producer of Tron: Legacy) as consulting producers. The multiplatform rollout and support for the series also includes:

- Friday, May 18 immediately following Disney Channel’s debut of Tron: Uprising, Beck’s Beginning, DisneyXD.com will launch a Tron-centric interactive video and gaming activity; the special will be split down into 10 micro-episodes, in which users take on the role of Beck and help him become the next hero of The Grid.
- Thursday, June 7 Directly following Disney XD’s on-air premiere of the first episode of Tron: Uprising, The Renegade Part 1, the second episode, The Renegade Part 2, will be available on DisneyXD.com, along with a new game, Renegade Strike.
- Friday, June 8 Tron: Uprising will be featured via Disney XD on Demand, DisneyXD.com, Disney XD Mobile, Sony Playstation, Xbox Live and iTunes.

Sunrise Confections, a division of Mount Franklin Foods, debuts the Annoying Orange Real Annoying Gummies and Fruit Snacks this week at the NCA Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago. The deal was brokered on behalf of The Collective by The Joester Loria Group (TJLG), the licensing agent for The Annoying Orange brand.
Marvel and Stride Rite Children’s Group (SRCG) team to release a new kids footwear collection, X-celeRacers, which Marvel Super Heroes including Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man. The new sneaker collection features an “X-tra” strap with an adjustable closure and a lightweight outsole and cushioning. The X-celeRacers line will be featured in Stride Rite’s new marketing campaign, called Imagination, targeted to boys 3-8 and their moms and designed to inspire boys to imagine themselves as Marvel Universe Super Heroes. in addition to limited gifts with purchase movie poster at participating locations, there will also be a special X-celeRacers by Stride Rite Marvel collection webpage at www.striderite.com/marvel that will feature a range of interactive activities for moms to share with their kids.
Big Idea Entertainment will release its new VD title VeggieTales; The Penniless Princess-God’s Little Girl this August 2012 (8/11 in Christian aimed retailers and 8/14 at general retailers). Chuck E. Cheese’s is a promotion partner for the new VeggieTales title debut and will feature clips of the DVD within in-store monitors and also offer VeggieTales activity booklets. This summer, Big Idea Entertainment will also hold MLB (Major League Baseball) and MiLB (Minor League Baseball) stadium DVD promotions during select games.
Jazwares is developing the first line of Lalaloopsy electronics under its licensing deal with MGA Entertainment (Bratz, Little Tikes). Based on the Lalaloopsy line of dolls, the Jazwares’ initial line electronics for the brand is set for release in fall 2012 and will include headphones, speakers and an alarm clock. Additionally, Jazwares’ Lalaloopsy electronics collection will later include earbuds, a digital camera and walkie talkies, all of which will feature elements of the Lalaloopsy brand, such as stylized patterns and the Lalaloopsy buttons, that can are found on Lalaloopsy characters.
MARKETING
A selection of games and activities from Funbrain (www.funbrain.com), the website that offers learning-based games for K3-11 and was first to make Diary of A Wimpy Kid available, will be featured on Applebee’s kids menu. The free Applebee’s Family Activity Book will include word games, fun facts, coloring activities, among other things, from the popular Funbrain.com, as well as featuring characters and illustrations from the website, at participating Applebee’s restaurants nationwide from May 7 July 1, 2012. Funbrain is published by Family Education Network, which is part of Pearson, an integrated education company. Pearson’s other primary operations include the Financial Times Group and the Penguin Group.
LeapFrog Enterprises and Little Pim, a noted foreign language learning program for kids, are teaming up to offer Little Pim content on LeapFrog’s LeapPad. Beginning June 2012, Little Pim foreign language video episodes ($10), targeted to K3+ will be available for purchase in the LeapFrog App Center. The Little Pim episodes feature a proprietary Entertainment Immersion Method, which uses a hybrid of animation and real kids to teach kids simple words and phrases for everyday activities. Little Pim videos will initially launch at the LeapFrog App Center in Spanish, English, Chinese and French languages.

Disney XD delivered its most-watched April in Total Day ever (including in its 10 years as Toon Disney) in April 2012 among K6-11 (128,000) and Tweens 9-14 (117,000) , as well as in Primetime with K6-11 (173,000), Tweens 9-14 (147,000). Disney XD’s high was also driven in part by the season two finale of the network’s original series Pair of Kings (Monday, April 16 at 8:30p), which also hit series highs with Tweens 9-14 (538,000).
