Bandai Co. names LA-based Sync Beatz Entertainment as the exclusive US licensing agent and brand manager for its popular Tamagotchi virtual pet brand. The new collection of lifestyle products branded Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. (Life is Fun Everywhere), will be unveiled next month at Licensing International Expo 2012 in Las Vegas. Sync Beatz Entertainment will implement a marketing program for the line of Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. products in key categories including apparel, domestics, furnishings, gifts & novelties, health & beauty and publishing in the US. The brand launch will include digital media efforts too, such as apps and webisodes. Originally launched in Japan in November 1996, Tamagotchi is a combination of the Japanese word for egg, “tamago,” with the English word “watch.”

LICENSING
HIT Entertainment and Sakar International solidify a license deal to create a line of Thomas & Friends consumer electronics in North America. Sakar will develop, manufacture and market a collection of branded merchandise including clock radios, walkie talkies, text messengers and boom boxes, as well as digital cameras, flashlights, and video game and computer accessories – all featuring Thomas the Tank Engine and his pals for the US and Canada. The first products in the collection will be available in early 2013. HIT Entertainment is a division of Fisher-Price, a subsidiary of Mattel.
Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and Penguin Young Readers Group debut a new series of books this summer based on the network’s animated series Adventure Time. The first four titles in the collection include Adventure Time Mad Libs, It’s a Slamacowtastic Story Mix-up (activity book), Righteous Rules for Being Awesome (80-page sticker book), and Dude-It-Yourself Adventure Journal (112-pages), and will release this July 2012.
Disney Mobile and Disney Consumer Products (DCP) will launch the first line of products based on the Disney mobile game Where’s My Water?, which features the original character Swampy the Alligator and other characters from the game. Licensees for the first line of merchandise includes Hasbro, Jakks Pacific/CDI, and Toys”R”Us. The first Where’s My Water? products will be available at mass retailers nationwide in June 2012, with select items available now at Disney Store locations and DisneyStore.com. The line includes plush and novelty toys, consumer electronics accessories, and apparel and accessories. The second wave of product coming this fall will expand to include a face-to-face game, consumer electronics, stationery, home accessories, and Halloween costumes.
SMC Entertainment Group (SMC), an entertainment and brand management company, signs several new licensing partners for the TeenNick live-action TV series H20: Just Add Water. Among the new licensees for H20: Just Add Water are: Mighty Fine (knit tops, tees and fleece); BSD Brands (flip flops, kids’ sunglasses and tote bags); Kalan (novelty gifts, party and fashion accessories); Global Resources (branded virtual goods); California Costume Collection for Children’s California Costume Collection; Funky Town (blankets, drinking glasses, straw cups and canvas bags); and Global Prints (posters). Merchandise is slated to release at retail in spring 2013. SMC was founded by global consumer products manufacturer Sun-Mate Corporation.

Australian-based Halfbrick‘s video game Fruit Ninja will introduce new characters, new content and a global giveaway as the game celebrates its second anniversary. The new Fruit Ninja content update will include: Welcome Gutsu and Truffles – joining Sensei in the Fruit Ninja dojo are Gutsu and Truffles, best friends and business partners – they are traveling merchants. The two set up shop and where players can check out their wares in the new Gutsu’s Cart menu. Players can also watch their debut in the new animated short created by Halfbrick and the People’s Republic of Animation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ca7H8GaKqmQ); Powerups — Berry Blast, Peachy Time and Bomb Deflects – three new items to purchase from Gutsu’s Cart. Explode with juice, add time to your game or deflect those pesky bombs with these awesome additions. Powerups can be obtained by spending Starfruit, which is the new Fruit Ninja currency collected at the end of every game based on your ninja skills.
BBC Worldwide Channels will launch its first dedicated channel in Brazil, in partnership with NET Servicos, a telecommunications and entertainment Company in Latin America. BBC HD will be available to subscribers of NET Servicos’ Top HD package on channel 531, starting May 28, 2012. This deal also includes a branded VOD service agreement, which will provide content from the preschool channel, CBeebies, and BBC Entertainment. BBC HD programming, including Top Gear, Sherlock, Planet Earth Live, among others, all of which will be broadcast in English with Portuguese subtitles, with a few titles dubbed into Portuguese. Additionally, the VOD offering will bring subscribers of NET’s NOW platform programming from BBC Entertainment and CBeebies. Preschool programming will include series such as Finley the Fire Engine and Waybuloo, among others. BBC Worldwide Channels’ current portfolio in the Latin American region comprises three channels in 17+ countries, BBC HD, BBC Entertainment and CBeebies.
Toon Goggles (www.toongoggles.com), a free online kids channel, and Everloop.com (www.everloop.com), a safe social media site for kids/tweens enter into a partnership, under which Toon Goggles’ library of programming, targeted specifically to kids 13 and younger, will be available to Everloop members.
9 Story Entertainment inks sales of season one of animated kid’s series Wild Kratts to Germany’s Super RTL. A co-production between The Kratt Brothers Company and 9 Story Entertainment, Wild Kratts is distributed internationally by 9 Story Entertainment and by Kratt Brothers Company in the US and Canada. Created and developed by real life brothers and zoologists Martin and Chris Kratt, Wild Kratts can be seen on PBS Kids Go! (US), and in Canada on TVOntario, Knowledge Network and Tele-Quebec, and the series has also been sold to Discovery Kids Latin America, Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (Middle East), NOGA (Israel), TV3 (Spain), SIC (Portugal) RTE (Ireland), Discovery Kids Asia, and VRT (Belgium).
Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release the new DVD Twinkle Toes: The Movie, a full-length movie based on Skechers Kids‘ Twinkle Toes footwear line, on July 31, 2012. The movie features the animated character of Skechers’ Twinkle Toes (www.twinkletoesusa.com) footwear line, Grace “Twinkle Toes” Hastings. The movie, which aims to get kids up and dancing, follows Grace trying to overcome her big fear — stage fright — which she gets in front of anyone except her fluffy friend Walter.
Marvel Animation, Vivendi Entertainment, Method Animation and DQ Entertainment are set to release Iron Man: Armored Adventures Season 2, Volume 1 on DVD this June 26, 2012. The new DVD title ($14.93) is comprised of the first six episodes of Season 2 of the series. Iron Man: Armored Adventures, which follows Tony Stark, 16-year-old genius and heir to the billion-dollar corporation Stark International, as he battles the enemies of world peace with his revolutionary armor technology.
