Good morning. It’s Wednesday, March 8, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
The industry’s two newest networks are making headway signing new affiliates: The CW signed long-term affiliation agreements with five stations, bringing the CW’s national coverage to almost 54% of the country, including 18 of the Top 20 markets and 25 of the Top 30. The newly-signed affiliates are: KCWE/Kansas City, WRWB/Rochester, WFLI/Chattanooga, KVIA-DT/El Paso, and WBCB/Youngstown. Fox’s MyNetworkTV has closed affiliate agreements, also in five markets: WUAB/Cleveland, KFVE/Honolulu, WBXH/Baton Rouge, WWWB/Charlotte and KPSE/Palm Springs. The new network, targeted to adults 18-49, is now cleared in 40% of the U.S.Tonight’s Premieres:
UPN: America’s Next Top Model at 8p
FX: Black. White. at 10p
Bravo: Top Chef at 11p (show moves to 10p next week)

* MORE GOOD STUFF *Oscar-winning Crash will have its TV premiere on Showtime on April 2 at 8p. The movie will lead into the debut of drama Huff‘s second season. The series is about a middle-aged psychiatrist who is personally and profoundly affected when a patient commits suicide in his presence.
Episodes from FX‘s original series, Black. White, will be made available 48 hours before airing on the network to DIRECTV subscribers as a special PPV offer. The series debuts today. On Mondays through April 10, DIRECTV will air the episodes at 10p on Channel 124 at $2.99 an ep. The series observes a black and a white family’s experiences as they are transformed through makeup to appear and live together as the other race.
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. has signed a video distribution deal with Cingular Wireless to provide branded video content from CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, NASCAR.COM and Turner Classic Movies. This is the first wireless distribution deal for TCM. Most of the video content will be made available to customers as part of Cingular’s Unlimited Data Plan, while content from NASCAR.COM will be offered to customers as a Premium Channel.
Music Choice is partnering with Warner Music Group to offer Cingular Wireless customers access to music videos and artist interviews from R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Pop music recording artists, featuring a streaming music video-on-demand service that allows customers to continuously watch a variety of selected music videos from WMG artists over a 24-hour period. All Cingular Video customers will have access to the service.
TiVo has partnered with Verizon Wireless to launch TiVo Mobile, providing Verizon Wireless subscribers the ability to program their TiVo via their mobile phones. Under the exclusive agreement Verizon wireless users will be able to download the application from its Get It Now service onto applicable handsets beginning summer 2006. TiVo subscribers will also able to access related entertainment through the arrangement.
Dana Reeve, widow of Christopher Reeve, and an accomplished actress in her own right, died of lung cancer at the age of 44. Diagnosed last January, Reeve made many appearances, most recently singing before a packed crowed in January at the Madison Square Garden ceremony honoring her friend New York Ranger’s captain Mark Messier. Reeve said she was beating the odds and her prognosis was getting better all the time. Since her husband’s death in 2004, Reeve returned to acting, appearing on episodes of Law & Order, Oz and All My Children as well as appearing on Broadway. She is survived by her 13 year old son Will, two adult stepchildren, her father and her sisters.

1917 – In Russia, the February Revolution begins in St. Petersburg with riots and strikes stemming from food shortages. The first chapter in the Russian Revolution leads to the abdication of Czar Nicholas III a week later. (This paroxysm is known as the February Revolution because Russia then still used the Julian calendar, which was thirteen days behind the Gregorian calendar.)
