Good morning. It’s Wednesday, March 7, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
Qubo Channel unveils its kid-targeted and family-friendly programming slate for the upcoming 2012-13 season, including the acquisition of 400+ new half-hour programs. Qubo, which recently celebrated its 5th anniversary, will introduce 16 new series, animated, live-action and hybrid programs, to its line-up beginning this quarter with the premieres of the live-action history-centric series Timeblazers (40×30) and the animated action/adventure program Dex Hamilton: Alien Entomologist (26×30). Established in 2006, Qubo is a joint venture between ION Media Networks, Scholastic, NBC Universal and Corus Entertainment Media. Qubo (www.qubo.com) programming is available on Qubo Channel, a 24-hour channel, can be seen 24/7 on Qubo Channel and is also broadcast Wednesday-Friday mornings on ION Television, Saturday mornings on NBC and weekend mornings on Telemundo. Here is how Qubo Channel plans to roll out its newly acquired programming on its schedule throughout 2012:
- Spring 2012: Artzooka (20×30) a mixed live action and animated series that shows kids new ways to create their own artwork; Guess With Jess (26×30) a spin-off of Postman Pat, this series follows his cat Jess and friends as they explore their farm home; Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs (26×30) the animated TV series based on the book series of the same name; Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego (40×30) an animated series based on the Carmen Sandiego educational computer games.

Disney EMEA has begun production in Ireland, on a new animated action comedy, Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja (52×11), which is slated to premiere on Disney XD worldwide this fall 2012. Disney’s London based production hub has commissioned animation company Boulder Media in Ireland and Titmouse in the US to produce the animated series for Disney XD. Boulder Media is handling the series from animation through post-production, and has hired 50 additional artists and animators to work on the project for the two year duration of the production. Titmouse is leading the pre-production creative for the series. Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja follows the adventures of unlikely hero Randy Cunningham who, armed with his magic demon fiber suit, the teachings of the ‘Ninja-ing’ (an ancient Ninja guide for dummies) and his best pal, finds himself as the one thing protecting his school and the world from monsters and kooks bent on freeing an evil 800-year-old sorcerer imprisoned under the school, while still trying to make their way through high school. The voiceover cast for Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja stars Ben Schwartz (Parks & Recreation, House of Lies, Everybody’s Fine) as Randy, Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Spamalot, The Wild Thornberrys) as the evil Sorcerer, and Megan Mullaly (Will & Grace, Parks & Recreation) as science teacher Mrs. Driscoll, as well as John Oliver (Smurfs, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), Andrew Caldwell (Transformers, My Name is Earl), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Chowder) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Static Shock, Justice League, Powerpuff Girls). The series is created and executive produced by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas (Scooby Doo and Paris Hilton’s My New BFF).
CCI Entertainment’s CCI Releasing greenlights the new K4-8 aimed CGI series Jerry and the Raiders (26×11), which is set to begin production next month. Developed and co-produced by CCI Entertainment and Montreal-based Fake Studios and First Star Studios, Jerry and the Raiders will launch in 2013 on TVO (Ontario) and SRC (Quebec). Jerry and the Raiders revolves around Jerry, a naturally curious 7-year-old boy whose life is turned upside down when two of his toy action figures come to life. Jerry’s life spins humorously out of control as his toys try to solve the mysteries of his daily young life, and wind up getting Jerry tangled up various situations. The series is created by Mark Shekter and Nancy Trites Botkin of First Star Studios. Funding for the project also comes from CMF and Shaw Rocket Fund.

In Big Time Movie, Kendall (Kendall Schmidt), James (James Maslow), Carlos (Carlos Pena Jr.) and Logan (Logan Henderson) head to London for their first big world tour but instead get mixed up in a mission to save the world. With their bags switched at the airport, they inadvertently gain possession of a formidable device that, in the wrong hands, could destroy the world. The guys look to their inner spy as they drive exotic cars and jump out of helicopters, while being chased by evildoers and a cast of other spies and players, and still try to make it to their first world tour concert on time. Turns out the guys are being chased because they have an anti-gravitational device, code-named: The Beetle, in their possession and everyone is trying to get it from them. Mayhem and adventure ensues.
