Cynopsis

6/06/07

Good morning, it’s Wednesday, June 6, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

HBO has a new CEO – Bill Nelson, the pay TV network’s COO since 2002, has been upped to CEO by Time Warner, filling the vacancy left by Chris Albrecht last month.   Additionally, four others were elevated at the same time (see Executive Moves below), and between all five executives, the duties of Albrecht will be covered.  Interestingly, while all five are internal promotions, none of them come from a programming background, as did Albrecht. Also coming up for HBO in the immediately future – the series finale of The Sopranos on June 10.

Tonight’s Premieres:
BBC America:
Footballers Wives at 8p
ABC: American Inventor at 9p
SCI FI Channel: Ghost Hunters at 9p and Destination Truth at 10p
TBS: Tyler Perry’s House of Payne at 9p
Bravo: Top Chef: 4-Star All-Stars at 10p
MTV: The X Effect at 1030p

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Lifetime Television’s new original drama Army Wives debuted last Sunday at 10p and drew in an average of 3.5 million viewers, making it the network’s most-watch series premiere in its 23-year history.

Food Network also aired its highest-rated series premiere ever on Sunday night as the third season debut of The Next Food Network Star (9p) delivered 4.7 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating among A25-54.

MSG will debut the new half-hour original series The Brooklyn Way this Friday at 1030p. The ten-episode program showcases the life of two New York brothers Mr. Kaves a.k.a. Michael McLeer and DJ ADM, a.k.a. Adam McLeer, who have both been instrumental in pioneering the hip-hop and street culture. The brothers are now known as The Lordz and have released a new album The Brooklyn Way. The show, produced by Tunnel Vizion Media, will further highlight their personal lives as they both live and raise families in Brooklyn, while pursuing their musical dreams.

Oxygen has picked up nine theatrical titles in recent deals with 20th Century Fox, Columbia and Warner Bros., according to Variety.  Titles include The Devil Wears Prada, Music & Lyrics, John Tucker Must Die, A Good Year, Shallow Hal, and the film License to Wed starring Robin Williams which is scheduled for release in July.  Three titles Oxygen gets in the first network window – A Good Year, Bandidas and Trust the Man.  Five more it will get once the FX window finishes in 2013 – My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Prada, Just My Luck, John Tucker Must Die and Taxi.

New York City’s yellow medallion taxicabs will soon sport advertising featuring content from NBC Universal and Clear Channel that promotes a new technology from Creative Mobile Technologies (CMT) and Mobile Knowledge that allows credit card acceptance. CMT’s FREEdom Solution also includes interactive maps.

Were you a fan of NBC’s short-lived The Black Donnellys?  Well, you’re in luck.  The show will be returning to the air, appearing with all 13 episodes on HDNet, beginning June 13 at 8p. The Black Donnellys only aired six times on NBC.

In case you were worried, Criss Angel did manage to escape from the falling clear box covered in cement in Times Square yesterday.  While he was not seen to emerge from the box any time during his 24 hour imprisonment, after the box fell 40 feet to the ground he was seen atop a large video screen nearby and waving to the crowd.  And that’s why he’s called an illusionist.  The stunt was designed to promote Angel and last night’s season premiere of his show on A&E, Criss Angel Mindfreak.

Please note:  Next time you’re invited to an event at The Paley Center for Media, whether it’s in NY or LA, go to the old Museum of TV and Radio.  It’s just been redubbed after the original CBS Chairman William S. Paley.
