A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM THE N
FRIDAY NIGHT ON THE N = #1
For teens and young women, The N was THE place to be on Friday night. With the summer return of fan fave Degrassi, and reality series premieres of Queen Bees and The N’s Student Body, The N outperformed every other network in ad-supported cable among both teens and women 12-24*.
DEGRASSI + QUEEN BEES + The N’s STUDENT BODY = #1
Like we always say, The N “gets” teens.
*The N Network was ranked #1 from 8-11p vs. all ad supported cable for teens, female teens and women 12-24 in Live+SD coverage ratings.
Cynopsis: Kids!
7/16/08
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, July 16, 2008, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Sesame Workshop plans to launch its new and improved $14 million redeveloped Sesame Street website on August 11, 2008 to coincide with the debut of the 39th season of the series, which airs on PBS, per the New York Times. According to the report, Sesame Workshop created the new site following research that found kids were not interested a “linear television-like experience,” but they did “respond strongly to having a Muppet guide them.” So, the site showcases live-action video including Muppets, versus flash animated content, and different themes and activities each day, as well as some 3,000 videos and 400 games. The new site also features PlaySafe, a proprietary technology that, when activated, makes it complicated for younger kids to navigate from the site. The website is free and will be supported via sponsorships, which are targeted to parents and will appear at the bottom of the page.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Marvel Studios has signed a deal with actor/writer/producer Justin Theroux to write the Iron Man sequel, per Variety. Slated for release in April 30, 2010, the movie is expected to once again star Robert Downey Jr. and be directed by Jon Favreau. As it did for the first Iron Man, Paramount will again serve as the distributor for Iron Man 2. The first Iron Man movie, released in May 2008, was penned by the teams of Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway.
Danny DeVito is set to direct the family-adventure movie The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle starring Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan, according to THR. DeVito also penned the screenplay for the movie, which is based on the young-adult novel of the same name by Avi. HandMade Films is financing the picture along with Plaza Productions International, a NY-based property and hotel group, and is being produced by several production entities including DeVito’s new company Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, Freeman’s Revelations Entertainment and Brosnan’s Irish DreamTime. HandMade Films International will handle worldwide sales for the movie, with CAA managing US rights.
RTE’s (Ireland) Young Peoples’ Department has ordered Aisling’s Diary (40×3), a new teen-targeted fish out of water series from Campbell Ryan Productions (Sofia’s Diary), per Broadcast Now. In addition to the short-form episodes, Aisling’s Diary will be stripped weekdays on RTE 2, with additional online recaps and other series content available online. The show revolves around Aisling, an Irish American teenager who moves to Ireland with her family and has a tough go of it between trying to fit in at her new Irish school and complications at home. The series will bow in September 2008.
