Cynopsis: Kids!
07/11/12
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, July 11, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
Lionsgate will split Mockingjay, the final book in The Hunger Games trilogy, into two movies, per Coming Soon. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is currently slated for release on November 21, 2014 followed by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 set to open November 20, 2015. The move extends the life of The Hunger Games movie series by dividing Mockingjay into two movies is not a surprise and has become pretty standard following the same strategy with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 and then The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2.

In support of the new animated Timmy’s Seaside Special (see more below) Aardman has partnered with Sea Life (www.visitsealife.com), a UK aquarium experience, to produce unique Timmy Time at Sea Life events that will be held at four UK Sea Life attractions from July 21-September 2, 2012. Following its CBeebies premiere, Timmy’s Seaside Rescue will be screened during the Sea Life events, along with costume character meet and greets, arts and craft activities, toddler quizzes, and fans can also enter a model making competition. Additionally, Sea Life is rebranding the existing rockpool areas with Timmy Time graphics during the campaign and a commemorative Timmy Time at Sea Life magazine will go on sale exclusively in Sea Life shops. Aardman and Sea Life have also teamed up with Cuddledry, the baby bath towel brand, for an on-pack promotion on Cuddledry’s UV Sun Protection Poncho Towel packs, offering 2-for-1 entry to Sea Life this summer. Timmy has partnered with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) charity, the Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Charity (Skcin), and the Pre-School Learning Alliance to help promote life-saving beach and sun safety messages to young kids, their parents and caregivers. Timmy’s Guide to Beach and Sun Safety will be available to download from the PSLA website.
CBeebies (UK) will premiere the new special Timmy’s Seaside Rescue, the second extended length Timmy Time (www.timmytime.tv) episode from Aardman, on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 5p. The Timmy’s Seaside Rescue will then be released on DVD on Monday July 16. The special follows Timmy and his friends on their first bus trip to a seaside beach. While at the beach Timmy’s teddy and Bumpy are swept out to sea and Timmy jumps into action.
The Goonies, the cult classic movie, makes its network debut on The Hub as part of it’s Hub Family Movie, on Friday, July 13 at 9p. The Hub will also feature new episodes of several of its series on Saturday, July 14, including Pound Puppies (9a), Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters (2p, note new time), and Transformers Rescue Bots (12:30p, note new time).
CBeebies (US and Latin America), the Spanish-language preschool channel distributed by Miami-based BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & US Hispanic, debuts the new second season of ZingZillas this Saturday, July 14 at 10a during the channel’s Wake-Up Time block. Vuguru and POW! Entertainment unveil the programming lineup for the new premium YouTube channel, Stan Lee’s World of Heroes. The comic book icon will feature a slate of original digital programming on Thursday, July 12th at Comic-Con with a panel including Mark Hamill, Adrianne Curry, Peter David, Jace Hall, Bonnie Burton and America Young. Stan Lee’s World of Heroes YouTube channel will feature both scripted and unscripted shows and aims to offer content for fans of all ages (but not all series are really for all ages). The programming schedule includes:
- Stan Lee’s Super.Model (scripted action comedy) – From Stan Lee, two aspiring models Bree and Sera and blogger friend Lizzie, are accidentally exposed to a mysterious serum that grants them super powers. Their newfound powers wreak havoc on their quest to become top models and pull them into a world of danger and intrigue. From Executive Producer Heath Corson (Aim High) and writer Taryn O’Neill (BlackBoxTV)
- Head Cases (scripted comedy) – You know those classic superhero battles where good and evil clash in epic fashion? This isn’t one of those. Set at the local bar frequented by super powered heroes and villains, the comedy Head Cases is what happens before, after, and in between those battles. From Peter David (Babylon 5, Ben 10, The Incredible Hulk) and Producer David M. Uslan.
- Bad Days (animated parody) – From Junaid Chundrigar (creator of the animated viral sensation Disassembled, Bad Days) shows us heroes and villains on their worst days. Whether Green Lantern is wasting time with an emerald Yo-Yo or Batman has locked himself out of the Bat-Mobile, Bad Days lets viewers laugh at epic super failure.
- FanWars (courtroom reality) – Who is the most intelligent Super Villain of all time? FanWars gives opinionated fans (is there another kind?) a chance to discuss the most pressing issues in the World of Heroes. Producer and host Jace Hall (The Jace Hall Show, V, The Morning After) and a panel of celebrity experts pit fan against fan as they debate topics from comic books, superheroes, and science fiction.
- Stan Lee’s Academy of Heroes (makeover reality) – From producer Jon Kroll (Amazing Race, Blade), the series takes real life aspiring heroes from across the country and gives them the mentoring and training they need to take their fight for good to the next level.
- Stan’s Rants (opinion) – this weekly series features the spirit of the classic Stan’s Soap Box comic column, which explores the inner workings of the unique mind of Stan Lee. From behind his desk, Stan, tongue firmly in cheek, explains his thoughts on pop culture, upcoming films, the general state of the world and more, in this weekly series.
Big Idea Entertainment will release VeggieTales; The League of Incredible Vegetables, a new superhero-themed DVD title, on October 13 and October 16, 2012, at Christian and general market retailers respectively. The title focuses on helping kids deal with fear, and includes a new League theme song and music video by the group Newsboys. VeggieTales: The League of Incredible Vegetables is the fourth title in a series of DVD releases that stars the popular LarryBoy character, and introduces four new superheroes played by VeggieTales characters Bob the Tomato, Petunia Rhubarb, Junior Asparagus and Mr. Lunt. Promotional partners for the new DVD title include Chuck E. Cheese’s, Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores, Brother’s-All-Natural. A series of League of Incredible Vegetables action figures, toys, apps and other products will also roll out beginning this fall.
