Good morning. It’s Wednesday, January 18, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing. Plenty of program changes afoot at Fox come March. Here’s the skinny: Two new shows, return of Prison Break, new time period for Bones and Malcolm, and series finales set for That ’70s Show (May 18, 8-9p) and Malcolm in the Middle (May 14). As for new series: Free Ride is a partially improvised comedy about a young college grad who moves back home with his parents rather than make plans for his future. Look for a special preview of this show on March 1st. The Loop is about Sam, who is the first among his circle of friends to get a real career-building job. Special preview planned for March 15. As for the M-Su lineup: Mondays: Prison Break (returns March 20) and 24 Tuesdays: American Idol (60m performance episode), House Wednesdays: Bones (time period premiere March 8), American Idol (30m results show), TBA Thursdays: That ’70s Show, The Loop (premiere March 16), The O.C. Fridays: Bernie Mac, Bernie Mac, Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy Saturdays: Cops, Cops, AMW Sundays: Malcolm/Middle (as of Jan 29), King of the Hill, Simpsons, War at Home, Family Guy, Free Ride (debuts March 12)Tonight’s Premieres: *MORE GOOD STUFF*Couple of other programming changes from ABC. No firm decision yet on the future of Emily’s Reasons Why Not and/or Jake in Progress, but this we do know – both shows will stay on the sidelines for at least the next two weeks, per Variety. Next week ABC plans to air another repeat episode of The Bachelor on Mondays 9-10p, and the following week it has scheduled a celebrity wedding special. And on Friday nights, Hope & Faith will stay off the air thru February as ABC continues with its extended 60m results show for Dancing with the Stars from 8-9p. Court TV launched its new daytime lineup yesterday and it goes like this: 9a: Open Court hosted by a list of rotating anchors 10a: Bloom & Politan: Trial Heat co-anchored by attorneys Lisa Bloom and Vinnie Politan 12n: Jami Floyd: Best Defense anchored by former defense attorney Jami Floyd 1p: Banfield & Ford: Courtside co-anchored by Ashleigh Banfield and Jack Ford 3p: Nancy Grace: Closing Arguments 5p: Catherine Crier LiveTV One will bring back another season of Get the HookUp with Radio One guy Russ Parr and his sidekick Alfredas. The show returns this Saturday at 10p, and will air in back-to-back, 30m episodes – the 10p ep is an original, followed by an encore episode at 1030p. The show features three African American bachelors competing for a date with one bachelorette, or vice versa. ESPN has cancelled its original series ESPN Hollywood; it’s last episode will air on January 26. Filling the 6pm weekday slot will be The Best of Mike and Mike, starting on January 30th. ABC Radio Networks has signed a multi-year deal with Mark Levin to nationally syndicate The Mark Levin Show to stations across the country. As of January 30th, the program will air on WABC/NY, WMAL/Washington DC, WBAP/Dallas and WJR/Detroit. In New York, the show airs daily at 6-8pm. CBS will make audio episodes of daytime soaper As the World Turns available for podcast download starting … well, yesterday! The daily programs can be downloaded at CBS Netcast, where you’ll also find audio versions of Guiding Light and Survivor Live. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Joining the cast as a series regular on CBS’ Criminal Minds is Kirsten Vangsness in the role of computer techie Penelope Garcia. Thus far, she has appeared on the show in a recurring role, now upped to a regular role. NBC has ordered up another season of Last Comic Standing, and if you think you’re up to it, applications are available at nbc.com. As for host – no word yet, says Variety. CBS will produce a remake of the 1976 miniseries Sybil which originally starred Joanne Woodward (nominated for an Emmy) and Sally Field (who won the Emmy). In the remake, Sybil will be portrayed by Tammy Blanchard, and the Dr. Wilbur by Jessica Lange. Production begins next week. * EXECUTIVE MOVES *FremantleMedia has appointed Gary Carter to the newly created position of Chief Creative Officer/New Platforms. In this new role, he will be responsible for creating new brands and concepts specifically for new platforms such as mobile, broadband, game consoles and IPTV. James Hitchcock has been promoted to SVP/Creative and Marketing, CMT and report to Brian Philips, EVP and GM/CMT. Based in Nashville, James will continue to oversee all marketing, branding, advertising, on-air and off-air promotions and creative execution for CMT. GE announces that Eric LaBat has been named Chief Marketing Officer/Rail Services Unit. Eric will be responsible for developing strategic marketing plans and driving growth and innovation breakthroughs for the business. E! Networks has announced several uppings. Suzanne Kolb has been promoted to EVP/Marketing and Communications, E! Networks and will now take on the added management responsibilities of E! Online. Concurrent with this news, Suzanne has announced other promotions also at E!: Sarah Goldstein has been upped to SVP/Public Relations; Stephen Earley becomes VP/Integrated Marketing, overseeing all partnership marketing efforts for E! and Style; and Melissa Stone is now VP/Marketing for the Style Network where she will provide marketing leadership and be a key player in the overall effort to provide dedicated leadership to Style’s efforts. * RATINGS *Monday- A18-49 Analysis: The Golden Globe Awards won the night for NBC on Monday, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. For the 3-hour broadcast, NBC earned a 6.3/15 among A18-49, less than a half point lead over Fox’s second half of the premiere of 24, which pulled a 5.9/13. Beginning at 8p, NBC won every hour of primetime, and Fox was #2 at both 8p and 9p. For the first hour of prime, NBC’s awardfest delivered a 6.0/14, only a single share point ahead of Fox’s 24. At 9p NBC stayed flat with a 6.5/14, while Fox climbed to a 6.3/14. At 10p NBC finished its big night with a 6.6/16, and CBS was #2 with a 4.7/11 for a repeat of CSI: Miami.
