Charlie Sheen, star of CBS’ Two and a Half Men entered a rehab center Tuesday as a “preventative measure,” according to Sheen’s spokesman, Stan Rosenfield. The statement further said Sheen would take some time off from the series but no timeline was released. Filming on episode 19 was scheduled for this week, making the sitcom six episodes shy of its 24-episode order for this seventh season. A joint statement from Nina Tassler, President/CBS Entertainment, Peter Roth, President, Warner Bros. Television and Creator/Executive Producer of the show Chuck Lorre said “CBS, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment center. We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter. Production on ‘Two and a Half Men’ will be temporarily suspended.” Sheen was recently charged with felony menacing following a Christmas Day altercation with his wife, actress Brooke Mueller.

ABC News announced yesterday it is planning an elimination of 300 positions within its division between now and the end of this year as part of an overall effort to promote efficiencies within its newsgathering and production operations. ABC News’ President David Westin indicated in a memo to staffers on Tuesday this effort was instigated because of the digital transformation in the industry and ABC News would put more emphasis on the use of digital journalists. In some areas, units within ABC News would be consolidated such as production operations for the weekday and weekend editions of World News and Good Morning America, resulting in redundant jobs cut. ABC News would offer voluntary buyouts to non-union employees in the next several months. Currently, the ABC News division has approximately 1,500 staffers.

After producer Mark Burnett pulled the child game show Our Little Genius off FOX before it premiered last month, the FCC is now investigating the show based on allegations show staffers may have provided contestants with answers before the taping.  A father, whose son was a contestant on the show, filed a complaint against the show in December allegedly saying his son was coached by Mark Burnett Production staffers, and was given some answers. Burnett said he took the show off after discovering “an issue” with how certain information was given to the contestants.

Beginning yesterday, the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia is reviewing the infamous CBS “wardrobe malfunction” case that occurred during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. The federal appeals court is re-examining if the $550,000 fine imposed by the FCC should be carried out. In 2008, a lower court threw out the fine saying the FCC had acted “arbitrarily and capriciously” in imposing the fine.

Golf Channel launches a new original reality series Being John Daly on March 2 at 9p, chronicling Daly’s year-long struggle to make a comeback on the PGA TOUR. The eight-episode series follows Daly, who is a five-time PGA TOUR champ, as he puts the pieces of his life together after years of drinking, gambling and marriage problems while playing in promotional tournaments to pay the bills and regain a foothold in the industry.  And as a side note, Daly who in the past year or so has lost upwards of 100 lbs., has just recently signed a deal with online company Slix to be a model for their line of men’s boxers.

Discovery en Espanol premieres the new series Tattoo Hunter on March 9 at 10p. The series follows anthropologist Lars Krutak as he discovers ancient body enhancement rituals from cultures around the globe that date back thousands of years. Discovery en Espanol is also bringing back new seasons of several series this same week including Destroyed in Seconds on March 8 at 9p; Out of the Wild: Alaska Experiment on March 10 at 9p; I Shouldn’t Be Alive on March 11 at 9p; and Whale Wars on March 12 at 9p.

Opening March 1, G4 serves up a second season of The International Sexy Ladies Show at 8p. Each episode shows off beautiful women from around the world doing strange and silly activities. A panel of comedians and pop culture experts consisting of Dan Cummins, John Reep, Edwin San Juan, Steve Byrne and Sherrod Small add their commentary to the video clips.
