SPEED returns its original show PINKS for season 5 on February 20 at 9p. In this new season, the 50’s-style drag racing show will visit Missouri, Alabama and New York. Broadcast Evening News Ratings Wrap-Up: The final results for the week of February 4, 2008: CMT opens season three of The Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search 3 on March 7 at 9p with eight episodes featuring ten women competing for the final spot in the Coyote Ugly traveling troupe and a $50,000 prize. Last Sunday’s premiere of Six Degrees Could Change the World on National Geographic Channel over three airings (8p, 10p and 12a) drew a combined 3.5 million A25-54 viewers. ION Media Networks, Inc. signed a non-exclusive deal with Twentieth Television to air the classic TV series M*A*S*H on ION Television in primetime. WPT Enterprises, Inc. has a new network partner as World Poker Tour (WPT) opens its sixth season on GSN March 24 at 9p. The new season includes 23 two-hour episodes beginning with the Mirage Poker Showdown and three new tour stops, more than twenty new players and a new host Layla Kayleigh. WPT will follow GSN’s High Stakes Poker series. CBS Sports announced beginning next month College Sports Television (CSTV) will become the CBS College Sports Network. Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports and Tony Petitti, EVP/Executive Producer, CBS Sports will supervise the daily operations of the network. To enhance the new cable network, original programming will be developed and anchoring the schedule will be a twice nightly program College Sports Tonight, with news and information focused on college sports. Also, CSTV’s online properties will be incorporated into the new network creating a comprehensive collection of sports-themed websites. Outdoor Channel launched on WideOpenWest (WOW! Joel Surnow, executive producer of Fox’s 24, is leaving the show. Surnow’s contract with Twentieth Century Fox TV was due to expire in April, and both sides have chosen to call it a day. He had been with the show since the beginning. Stepping in will be Howard Gordon who has been running the day-to-day on this show since the start of Season #6. Fox has ordered a pilot of a new gamer based on the Japanese game show Hole in the Wall from Fuji TV which is likened to a human game of Tetris, reports Variety. The US version will be produced by FremantleMedia N.A. The format has been sold in other countries and is reportedly successful in Australia, India and Russia, and clips can be seen on YouTube as well. Justin Hartley of The CW’s Smallville, has signed a talent holding deal with the network. Hollywood writers are satisfied they will at least get a seat at the table if studios begin feasting on revenues from digital platforms. Members of both the East and West wings of the WGA (92.5% of the 3,775 who voted, to be exact) voted overwhelmingly to ratify the deal hammered out by the guild’s governing boards over the weekend, offering writers mostly flat fees in these early days online distribution. Randy Rieland advanced to SVP/Interactive Media for Discovery Channel and Science Channel where he reports to John Ford, President/GM, Discovery Channel and is a member of the Digital Media leadership team under Josh Freeman, EVP/Digital Media. She also handles the local execution of many SPTI Networks’ light entertainment franchises and negotiates the acquisitions for SPTI’s nearly 50 television channels outside the U.S. Granite Broadcasting Corporation named Chris Flynn as GSM of KBWB, the independent station in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose market. Chris will begin his new post February 26 and will report to Craig Coane, President/GM of KBWB. ESPN hired Barry Blyn as VP/Consumer Insights to increase the network’s consumer research capabilities across all ESPN businesses.
