Cynopsis: Kids!
12/21/11

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 21, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.

Scholastic furthers its multi-platform publishing initiative with the worldwide launch of Infinity Ring, an alternate-history time travel series targeted to Kids/Tweens 8-12.  The Infinity Ring will be penned by a team of six authors and will feature an interactive Hystorian’s Guide map, and an immersive online game experience where readers will travel back in time to fix the “Great Breaks” in history.  Infinity Ring will launch simultaneously in September 2012 in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, with Book 1: A Mutiny in Time, written by bestselling author James Dashner (The Maze Runner), who also outlined the program’s overall story arc.  The next books will written by noted authors including Carrie Ryan (Book 2; November 2012), Lisa McMann (Book 3; February 2013), Matt de la Pena (Book 4; June 2013), Matthew J. Kirby (Book 5; September 2013), and Jennifer A. Nielsen (Book 6; December 2013).  The last book in the Infinity Ring series will also be written by Dashner (Book 7; March 2014).  Each book in the series will be packaged with a unique Hystorian’s Guide, a collectible map that includes a special code to unlock exclusive content in the Infinity Ring online game (www.infinityring.com, the site is currently under construction).  The online game, available on the web, smartphones, iOS and Android tablets, features a virtual world, where players can interact with other characters, and explore key events in history alongside Christopher Columbus, Abraham Lincoln, and other figures featured in the books.  Scholastic launched its first multi-platform publishing effort, The 39 Clues (www.the39clues.com) in 2008.  The 39 Clues franchise includes an integrated combination of book, collectible cards, and an online game.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Disney EMEA gives the go ahead on a new CG animated preschool series, The Happy Hugglemonsters (52×11), which will launch on Disney Junior from fall 2012 in 150 countries.  Developed and produced by Dublin-based Brown Bag Films, the series is based on the book I’m A Happy Hugglewug by Irish author/illustrator Niamh Sharkey, and published by Walker Books.  The new series will feature the illustration style used in the book.  The Happy Hugglemonsters follows Henry, a five-year-old monster going through the daily ups and downs of growing up as the middle child in a happy, slightly wacky close-knit family with three siblings, including his older brother Cobby, slightly older sister Summer, and baby brother Ivor.  Directed by Norton Virgien (Rugrats, Doc McStuffins), the series head writer is Sascha Paladino (Wonder Pets, Ni-Hao Kai-Lan) and is produced by Gillian Higgins (Doc McStuffins, The Octonauts).  The Happy Hugglemonsters was developed with support from the Irish Film Board.
