A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC CABLE DISTRIBUTION
Legal Drama from Hit Maker Jerry Bruckheimer #1 with HH, Total Viewers, CLOSE TO HOME CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 21, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. CBS title change: Formerly known as The Jenna Elfman Show, the sitcom is now titled Courting Alex and is scheduled to debut on January 23 at 930p. Tonight’s Finale: * MORE GOOD STUFF *Roger Ailes will stick around with Fox News for at least the next five years after signing a new deal that will pay him in the neighborhood of $6 million per year. Yes, that’s million, according to Variety. And if that paycheck isn’t enough, there are also incentives and targets to meet, which could double his annual take. Ailes carries with this deal multiple titles: Chairman/CEO of Fox News Channel, Chairman/CEO of the Fox Business Channel that is on target to launch in 2006, Chairman/Fox TV Stations Group, 20th Century Fox Television and as Editor-in-Chief of FoxNews.com. Elsewhere E! is in the process of finalizing a new hire: Ryan Seacrest, as lead anchor of E!’s daily news show, E! News, along with current anchor Giuliana DePandi. E! is looking to finalize a three year deal with Seacrest that would include his developing new programming via his Ryan Seacrest Prods. shingle. Seacrest may be one of the busiest on-air guys in the business — consider this: American Idol three times a week, a daily radio show on KIIS-AM from 4a-10am, annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC, and now E!’s daily news program as well as key man for the cable network’s coverage of the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. So, let’s say you’re a Commander in Chief fan. And let’s say you miss a few episodes. ABC has good news for you – effective immediately, you can download Commander in Chief episodes off iTunes, to the tune of a buck-ninety-nine – same price as all of the other TV Shows available on iTunes. Interactive Television Networks, Inc. has teamed with the National Lacrosse League to launch LacrosseTV on January 1, 2006. The all-lacrosse all-the-time network will air both live and archived games, college games and other related content to subscribers via broadband internet. The network is scheduled to broadcast at least 20 live NLL games during the 2006 season. LacrosseTV will also include dedicated team channels for all eleven NLL teams, which will also include archived games plus team news, blogs and other team information. A TiVo Moment: The final game after a 36-season run of ABC’s Monday Night Football on December 26 will feature the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. It will also feature taped segments with Dandy Don Meredith and Frank Gifford bidding farewell to Monday Night Football, per Hollywood Reporter. Other segments airing during the course of the game and at halftime will include a variety of favorites, and plenty of past Are You Ready for Some Football? moments. MNF makes the shift to ESPN next season, and will take with it its music and booth favorite Al Michaels. Note to self: duh….the Redford/Newman gig on Iconoclasts is tomorrow night at 10p. Sheesh. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *ABC‘s new sitcom series Emily’s Reasons Why Not scheduled to debut on January 9 at 9p, has added cast member James Patrick Stuart as a regular. Stuart plays a consultant working with the publishing company where Emily is employed, and has regular run-ins with Emily, played by Heather Graham. Additionally, Bill Diamond joins the Sony Pictures Television series as showrunner/exec producer. * EXECUTIVE MOVES *Eileen Murphy has been named Gemstar-TV Guide’s SVP/Corporate Communications. In this role, Eileen will support all operations of the company by overseeing media relations and internal and external communications. The Retro Television Network has named Nathan Stamp VP/Programming for the network. Nathan will oversee all program acquisitions and scheduling. Nathan was Corporate Director of Programming for Equity Broadcasting Corporation where he oversaw all program acquisitions for the group’s stations. PlanetOut Inc. upped Jeff Soukup to the newly created position of COO. He will retain one of his current positions as EVP with a search for a replacement for his CFO position to begin shortly. Jeff will be responsible for the company’s worldwide growth, including strategic planning, operational efficiencies and financial and operational goals. Product development and technology, business intelligence, finance and accounting, legal, human resources, administration and facilities and corporate development divisions will report to him. The soon-to-be CFO will also report to Jeff, who will continue as acting CFO while the search is underway. Dan Harrison has been named SVP/Emerging Networks, where he will oversee and develop Sleuth, the NBC Universal Television Group’s new crime-mystery cable channel set to launch on January 1, 2006. The announcement was made by Jeff Gaspin, President, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and Cross-Network Strategy, to whom he will report. Joe Peyronnin, Telemundo’s EVP/News, will be leaving the network by the end of December to spend more time with his family. He has worked at the Telemundo’s Miami office for 6 years while commuting to his New York home. Telemundo has not yet announced a replacement. WEA Corp., Warner Music Group Corp.’s US sales and distribution company has undergone a strategic reorganization. Over the past several years, WEA Corp.’s role has grown to include the oversight of its independent distribution network, its incubator initiative, a digital-only label, and the e-Commerce group, as well as the global management and distribution of WMG’s digital assets. The new WEA structure will encompass four units, each of which will report into John Esposito, President/CEO, WEA. Asylum and East West, WMG’s incubator labels, and Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) will continue to report directly to Esposito and are not impacted by today’s announcement. Additionally, exiting is EVP/Sales & Marketing, John Madison. He is headed for a position at the Entertainment Distribution Company. Madison’s position will not be filled, and there will be no staff reductions as a result of these announcements. WEA’s four new units:
