Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 20, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

Flashman Studios has teamed with Classic Media in a consulting deal to create video game opportunities across all platforms, for a slew of Classic Media’s characters including Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Lone Ranger, Sherman and Peabody, Dudley Do-Right, Underdog and many others.  Flashman is actively looking for game publishers around the world to work on games.  Additionally, Classic Media is now developing several feature film and TV projects including:

  • Underdog – a mixed live-action/CGI feature film with Spyglass Entertainment and Disney;
  • The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie, a Universal Picture’s CG animated feature film;
  • A live-action movie adaptation of The Lone Ranger, with Columbia Pictures through its Sony-based Red Wagon Productions;
  • Currently in production is George of the Jungle, a new animated series for Cartoon Network, which will premiere Fall 2007.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Granada International has inked its first output deal with Greece’s Skai TV.  The multi-year pact includes the sale of 200+ hours of programming, comprised of TV movies, kid’s, dramatic and factual programming, to the Greek broadcaster.  The kid’s programming includes My Parents are Aliens and Worst Witch, among others.

National Geographic Television International has signed a group of new licensing agreements for its special Toot & Puddle: I’ll Be Home for Christmas with broadcasters including: ARD and Ki.Ka in Germany; Nickelodeon in both the UK and Australia; YLE Finland; TV2 Norway; DR1 Denmark; and ATV Hong Kong.  Based on the Holly Hobby book of the same name, Toot & Puddle: I’ll Be Home for Christmas is aimed at Kids 3-8 and families and is produced by National Geographic Kids’ Entertainment, in association with has been picked up by Warner Home Video.

Nickelodeon Latin America marks its 10th anniversary with a celebration of special programming from December 26-January 28, 2007.

  • The festivities begin December 26 from 3:30-730p with The First Episodes of Nick series followed by Birthday Specials on December 27 from 2:30-7:30p.
  • Every week will be filled with the best episodes of each show, including characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Mr. Blink, Jenny the Teenage Robot, The Xs and Danny Phantom, in The Week of 10 Non-Stop Episodes, starting January 1-5, 2:30-8p.
  • There will also be new festivities the following week with various new episodes on January 12 at 7p beginning with Nick Birthday Gifts: 10 New Episodes. Each day two new episodes of Drake & Josh, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Danny Phantom, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Xs, will be featured adding up to 10 brand new episodes per day.
  • The network will also celebrate its 10 years with 10 gift packs for 10 prize-winning kids, in a contest lasting 10 days! To participate, children will have to log on to

MARKETING/LICENSING

Dimensional Branding Group (DBG) will launch the North American licensing effort for the animated series The Secret Show (52 x 13′) at the American International Toy Fair 2007, this February 11-14, 2007 in NYC. The Secret Show is slated to premiere in the US on Nicktoons Network Saturday, January 20, 8:30p, as part of the network’s Three Headed Monster programming block. Targeted to Kids 7-12, The Secret Show is produced by Collingwood O’Hare Entertainment on a BBC commission and distributed by BBC Worldwide, which retains the cross-media rights to distribute the series worldwide, as well as merchandising, publishing and home video rights.  The series debuted in the UK, September 2006 and has been sold to 18 international markets.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has completed a videogame distribution agreement with Codemasters, Inc.  Under the terms of the pact, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Warner Home Video will oversee distribution, sales and trade marketing of Codemasters’ 2007-2008 slate of interactive games in North America beginning in April 2007.

Reebok has released a new line of Play-Doh toddler sneakers.  The Play-Doh footwear line is the result of a deal between Hasbro, Inc. and Reebok International to create the Versaflex Play-Doh collection of toddler footwear.  The line features Play-Doh inspired gel-cushioning material built into the heel as well as fasteners that kids can close quickly and easily and in six different colors, with each pair sold with two one-ounce cans of Play-Doh.  Now, if only they can figure out a way for sweaty sneaker-feet to smell like Play-Doh … then they’d really be onto something!

Planetwide Media has released its new Marvel Heroes Comic Book Creator software in the US and Canada.  The software allows users to create personalized comic books featuring their favorite Marvel characters.

STONE SOUP

Sesame Workshop and the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH) have made streaming video and outreach materials for the You Can Ask! Initiative is now available in English, Spanish and Chinese at www.sesameworkshop.org/youcanask .  Launched in 2003, initially developed in response to the events of September 11, 2001, You Can Ask aims to help identify and help kids 3-8 cope with stress and trauma related to tragic events by encouraging them to talk about their concerns. Developed by Sesame Workshop, You Can Ask! was made possible by Project Liberty, a disaster recovery program established by the NYSOMH with funds provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, with support from the Center for Mental Health Services. The video features Sesame Street Muppets in a series of segments, produced following 9/11, to help kids deal with fear, loss, and bullying and accepting differences.  The site also provides parents, caregivers and teachers with ways to talk and deal with difficult situations in age appropriate ways.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

J.B. Perrette has been upped to President, NBC Universal Digital Distribution.  He will be responsible for distribution of TV content across digital platforms including interactive TV, wireless, on-demand and IPTV.  Perrette will head up TV content discussions for the company with Internet portals, wireless carriers, emerging digital companies, and non-traditional customers.  Perrette will report to George Kliavkoff, Chief Digital Officer.  Additionally, Perrette will also lead strategic partnerships and assume responsibility for cable investments, managed by President Douglas Holloway, including for example, the company’s investments in A&E Networks, Sundance Channel, and NBC Weather Plus. In this area Perrette will report to Jeff Zucker, CEO, NBC Universal Television Group.

Douglas Lowenstein has resigned as President, Entertainment Software Association, the organization he founded 12 years ago.  Lowenstein plans to step down in the early part of 2007, and plans to launch a new trade association in the investment industry.  A founding President of the organization, Lowenstein has served in this role for 12 years.  The ESA will no begin a full search for Lowenstein’s replacement.
