Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 1, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing. Toronto-based Wizard Hat Productions, a producer of kid/family programming, is set to produce the new tween-targeted, CGI animated series Grim Hill (26×30), which is based on the five book series of the same name by Linda DeMeulemeester, and published by Canada’s Lobster Press. The Grim Hill adventure stories begin with a Celtic myth and faerie lore and feature average teens, Cat, Sookie, Jasper and Clive, going up against powerful, mythical creatures. Wizard Hat was founded earlier this year by former Cookie Jar Entertainment production toppers Pam Slavin and Toni Stevens along with media executive Bill Fox. MORE KIDS STUFF A new episode of The Jim Henson Company‘s CG-animated preschool series, Dinosaur Train ( www.pbskids.org/dinosaurtrain ), will premiere December 6 on PBS Kids (check local listings). Additionally, Dinosaurs in the Snow DVD, which features eight Dinosaur Train adventures, from PBS Kids and Paramount Home Entertainment is set to release this month. Dinosaur Train is produced by The Jim Henson Company, and co-produced with Singapore animation company Sparky Entertainment, with the participation and assistance of the Singapore Media Development Authority. UK production and financial support is provided by Ingenious Media. South Korea’s Sunwoo Entertainment names Imira Entertainment to represent the rights to the combined 2D and 3D animated series Mix Master Final Force (39×22) in Iberia. Targeted to Boys 6-11, Mix Master Final Force currently airs in Korea on KBS, Cartoon Network Korea and JEI. Wonder, maker of Wonder breads, signs on as a new official sponsor of The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!, the natural science-centric kids series that premiered earlier this fall on PBS Kids. Wonder’s sponsorship agreement runs through August 2011, and includes on-air sponsorship messaging as well as other elements. Based on Random House’s Beginner Book collection, The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library, The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That! is produced by Portfolio Entertainment and Collingwood O’Hare Productions, in association with Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Entertainment, Treehouse, and PBS Kids. CreateSpace ( www.createspace.com ) DVD on Demand platform, part of Amazon.com, inks deals with The Fred Rogers Company and Respond2 Entertainment, to release episodes of the classic kid’s TV series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, respectively. The TV titles will also be available for digital sale via Amazon VOD. The initial release includes 100 episodes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (originally titled Misterogers’ Neighborhood), including five episodes from the first weeks of the series, as well as 80 “classic” and 15 “middle years” episodes, featuring The Death of a Goldfish and Mister Rogers Talks About Divorce, Mister Rogers as a Boy, Caring for the Environment, Mad Feelings, Is Santa Claus Real?, and Making Mistakes. The first release of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson includes 56 original individual episodes. DQ Entertainment (DQE) enters into two new license deals for The Jungle Book series. DQE signs an exclusive publishing deal for The Jungle Book via its merchandising agents in Germany, ZDF Enterprises, with Egmont Verlagsgesellschaften, Germany and a non-exclusive deal with Belltex, Belgium for products based on the property in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Under its deal, Egmont takes the rights to manufacture, publish and distribute German language books based on the property in a range of formats (e.g. character books, friendship books, school diaries, pop-up books, comic books, painting books and poster books), across German speaking Europe. DQE will get a royalty on Egmont’s sales, in addition to an upfront payment of minimum guaranteed royalties over the term of the agreement. In its non-exclusive deal, Belltex will manufacture and distribute bed linen and similar products based on The Jungle Book characters. Belltex previously completed a deal for The Jungle Book for France and Benelux. Hole In The Wall coming to your mobile device. SkyZone Entertainment, a provider of mobile games/services/content, and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) team up to release Hole In The Wall on the iOS, BREW, J2ME mobile platforms, to be followed by an Android version. Based, of course, on the Hole In The Wall TV game show, the mobile came will go for between $1.99 and $6.99. The iPhone version of the Hole In The Wall game will include special features such as multi-touch and iTunes support, wall posting of scores, high sound quality and visual effects that take advantage of the device’s graphic capabilities. EXECUTIVE MOVES Disney Publishing Worldwide appoints Emily Meehan as Executive Editor/Disney-Hyperion Books. Meehan is responsible for acquiring and edition young adult novels, middle grade and pictures books for Disney-Hyperion. She will also head up new acquisitions and work with authors, illustrators, and agents.
