Univision released a statement following the death of Jenni Rivera over this past weekend: “All of us at Univision would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the Rivera Family and the families of the passengers aboard the plane that ended the lives of Jenni Rivera and her team. To our viewers who were also her fans we will be dedicating most of our programming to celebrate her memory.”
On Sunday night, Univision dedicated its primetime programming with news of Ms. Rivera’s fatal plane crash as well as video footage of her life. According to the network, Sunday night’s performance was the best in 2012 with close to 1.8 million A18-49 viewers.
A new six-part docu-series starring Pete Rose and his fiancee former Playboy model Kiana Kim debuts on TLC next month. Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs. will premiere January 14 at 10p and follows Pete and Kiana as they prepare for a new life together and blend their respective families. The series is produced for TLC by Creature Films.
National Geographic Channel in the US acquired the new original docu-series Yukon Gold produced by New York City-based Paperny Entertainment. The ten-episode, one-hour series will debut on NGC in 2013. The docu-series follows the journey of four gold mining crews who have four months in Canada’s Yukon to strike gold. The series was originally developed for HISTORY in Canada will also premiere there in early 2013.
Beginning tomorrow night the ten-episode original series Further with Jeremy Jones debuts exclusively on Outside Television at 930p. The series is from Teton Gravity Research (TGR) and takes an up-close look at the personalities, adventure, drama and the excitement surrounding snowboarding. Outside Television will air double encore episodes every weekend. Further is the second installment in the Jeremy Jones trilogy that launched with Outside Television’s series Jeremy Jones Deeper last year.
Comedy Central unveiled its midseason series premiere dates: The Burn With Jeff Ross debuts January 8 at 1030p; Workaholics and Kroll Show both premiere on January 16 at 10p and 1030p respectively; a fifth season of Tosh.0 opens February 5 at 10p; The Jeselnik Offensive bows February 19 at 1030p; The Ben Show and Nathan for You both debut on February 28 at 10p and 1030p respectively; and Inside Amy Schumer premieres April 30 at 1030p.
Prior to IFC debuting a new season of Portlandia on January 4 at 10p, IFC.com is launching the new web series, Kumail Tours Portlandia. Comedian and Portlandia guest star, Kumail Nanjiani (Franklin & Bash) serves as tour guide to some of the real-life Portland locations and residents that influence the show. Verizon FiOS announced yesterday it has reached a renewal carriage deal with AMC Networks before the previous contract expires on December 31. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Social Media 3.0 for TV Programmers: Beyond Facebook + Twitter
Chuck Lorre, behind the comedies The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly has sold another half-hour multi-camera comedy to CBS. The project titled Mom is about a single mother which is co-written by Lorre and Two and a Half Men EP Eddie Gorodetsky and story editor Gemma Baker. The plot is about a recently sober single mother as she attempts to get her life in order in Napa Valley. Lorre and Gorodetsky will serve as EPs with Baker on board to produce. Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television are producing.
Discovery Channel ordered production on the network’s first-ever, scripted mini-series titled Klondike (wt). The mini-series is based on Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike and tells the story about six strangers and their fight for survival and wealth in a small frontier town in the remote Klondike region. The project is a co-production between Discovery, Entertainment One Television (eOne) and Nomadic Pictures in association with Scott Free Television. Paul Scheuring is the main writer and will serve as EP in addition to Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker; as well as John Morayniss and Michael Rosenberg for eOne; Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes will serve as co-producers for Nomadic. Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz are also writing episodes as Consulting Producers. Eileen O’Neill and Dolores Gavin will serve as EPs for Discovery.

- All Forked Up joins together Las Vegas food critics, Al Mancini and John Curtas as they participate in food duels while exploring a city’s unique culinary flavors. Six half-hour episodes produced by O’Malley Productions.
- Burger Land features host George Motz author of the book, Hamburger America as he takes viewers on a road trip to meet America’s oldest and most famous hamburger creators and their restaurants. Motz uncovers the history, people and secrets behind America’s iconic sandwich. 11 half-hour episodes produced by Magilla Entertainment.
- Digfellas follows relic hunters Bill Ladd and Howard Hewitt as they search and preserve our past. Each episode has the pair investigate and excavate a history-rich location in search of treasured relics and antiques. Six half-hour episodes from Kinetic Content.
- Fortune Diggers (wt) follows three teams of top American relic hunters in a head-to-head race as they try to discover the most valuable artifacts in a given historic location. Six half-hour episodes produced by Sharp Entertainment.
- Gem Hunt goes inside the world’s gem trade by following gem dealer Ron LeBlanc, geologist Bernie Gaboury and jewelry enthusiast Diane Robinson as they travel to remote regions in search of gems they can turn into a small fortune. Seven one-hour episodes from NHNZ.
- Monumental Mysteries goes cross-country in search of extraordinary monuments and the mysteries they conceal. From New York’s Chrysler Building to a huge clock on the island of Hawaii where the hands are frozen in time, Don Wildman hosts the series and visits the sites. 13 one-hour episodes from Optomen Productions.
Bravo has a new scripted drama in its pipeline titled Moguls that is described as similar to Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing, reports THR. Charles Randolph screenwriter on Love and Other Drugs and playwright Sharyn Rothstein are developing the project centering on a media mogul and his family. Randolph and Rothstein are writing together and Randolph will additionally serve as a supervising producer as well as EP alongside former Channel Four CEO and Universal Television chairman Michael Jackson.
Canada’s Slice network will debut the new series Mother of The Bride with double episodes on January 4 at 9p and 930p. The series, produced by RTR Media Inc. and Citizen Skull Inc., focuses on the second most important dress purchase of a wedding: that of the mother of the bride at Houston’s T. Carolyn Fashions.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: FOX won Saturday night by delivering a 2.1/7 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, UFC on FOX scored a 1.7/7 well ahead of next in line CBS with back-to-back Frosty specials that averaged a 1.1/4. FOX held court at #1 through 9p with more of the UFC game at 2.2/7 and CBS’ special Flight Before Christmas came in second at 1.0/3. FOX ended the night a winner with the UFC game at 2.4/8 while CBS remained in second place during 10p with 48 Hours at 1.2/4.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC remained in a dominant stance Sunday night with the A18-49 viewers at 6.6/17, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. Starting out, CBS won at 7p with 60 Minutes at 1.9/5 followed closely by NBC’s Football Night in America Part 2 at 1.8/5. NBC then took over at 8p winning with a combination of Football Night in America Part 3 and the start of the Sunday Night Football match at an average of 5.8/15 and FOX came next at 2.8/7 for the average of The Simpsons and Bob’s Burger’s. NBC’s Sunday Night Football ruled during 9p at 7.7/19 and the season finale of CBS’ The Amazing Race slipped into second place at 2.7/6. NBC ended the night at 10p with a surge for its Sunday Night Football at 8.3/21 and ABC’s Hallmark Hall of Fame movie was #2 at 2.0/5.

NBCUniversal revealed more additions to its Ad Sales division effective immediately: Scott Schiller, EVP/Digital Ad Sales and Krishan Bhatia, EVP/Digital Strategy and Operations have taken on expanded roles. Barry Fischer was named to the new position of EVP/Sales Analytics while Earl Marshall was appointed as EVP and CFO/Ad Sales. Mike Mayer was named SVP/Sales Solutions. Each of the executives will report to Linda Yaccarino, President/Ad Sales, NBCUniversal. Furthermore, John Shea, EVP and NBCU’s CMO/Integrated Media will join the Ad Sales division to spur strategy, innovation and creative for cross-portfolio ad deals. John will jointly report to Linda Yaccarino and Lauren Zalaznick, NBCUniversal’s Chairman, Entertainment and Digital Networks and Integrated Media.
Telepictures elevated Jill Olsen to SVP/Finance and Administration. Jill manages all facets of Telepictures’ finance and administration operations encompassing production financing and accounting in addition to human resources. She will further play a key role in managing budgets, forecasts and operational financial reporting for Telepictures. Jill reports directly to David Decker, EVP/Business and Legal Affairs.
Hasbro, Inc. announced it has integrated all of its content initiatives covering television, film, commercial production and short-form content headed by Stephen Davis, President of Hasbro Studios in Los Angeles. Stephen will additionally lead Hasbro’s Film Group in L.A. and the company’s Rhode Island-based studio. Stephen will report to John Frascotti, CMO, Hasbro; Bennett Schneir, SVP Motion Pictures and Terry Scott, SVP of Cake Mix Studio in Rhode Island will now report to Stephen.
Andrew Scher was promoted to Executive Producer on the daytime series, The Doctors up from Co-Executive Producer, a position he has held since 2008. Andrew will oversee production management and show creative development under showrunners and EPs Carla Pennington and Jay McGraw. The Doctors is produced by Stage 29 Productions and distributed by CBS Television Distribution.
