Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, 67, is recovering after suffering a minor heart attack. He was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles late Monday night and is expected to remain hospitalized for a couple of days for tests and observation. A post on the official Jeopardy! web site said Alex was resting comfortably and is expected back when tapings resume in January.

Next Tuesday, FX will roll out a new re-branding campaign using the tagline “There Is No Box.” The News Corp.-owned cable network will air approx 25 different :60 and :30 spots created by the network featuring clips from its eight original series. The network will also drop the klieg lights on its logo, keeping FX in uppercase letters. FX President/GM, John Landgraf admitted the network has spent “tens of millions of dollars” on this campaign, including a :60 spot during the Super Bowl February 3 on FOX. The other spots will air on News Corp.-owned properties and Fox Interactive Media sites such as MySpace, Rotten Tomatoes and Photobucket in addition to a paid print campaign.

Military Channel’s upcoming new series Showdown: Air Combat from Traveling Light will re-create famous historical aerial dogfights. The 13-episodes will use a vintage B-25 bomber as a platform to film hi-def aerial footage of classic war planes like the Russian Mig-15, the P-38, the P-51 Mustang and the Japanese Zero.

The Monday premiere of the original real-life series Paranormal State (10p) on A&E drew in 2.5 million total viewers with 1.5 million A25-54 viewers and 1.6 million A18-49 viewers. It’s lead-in was the premiere episode of Intervention (9p) which pulled in 2.4 million viewers, with 1.5 million A25-54 viewers, and 1.6 million A18-49 viewers.

E!‘s season premiere of The Girls Next Door (10p) posted a 1.8 A18-34 rating and a 2.3 W18-34 rating.  At 1030p, the debut of Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood scored a 1.7 A18-34 rating and a 2.4 W18-34.

Broadcast Evening News Ratings Wrap-Up: NBC’s Nightly News took the lead with both total viewers and the coveted A25-54 news rating demo during the week of December 3, 2007:
NBC: 9.47 million total viewers and 2.4/9 A25-54
ABC: 9.32 million total viewers and 2.3/9 A25-54
CBS: 6.55 million total viewers and 1.6/6 A25-54

Sewee Entertainment has clearances in more than 80% of the U.S. for its latest project, Andrew Young Presents. Produced in hi-def, the quarterly one-hour specials feature Civil Rights leader Andrew Young as he explores current global topics for local audiences and is joined on location around the world by stars from sports, music, entertainment and politics. The program will launch in February and is cleared to air on the Fox-owned stations in NY, Philly, Washington DC; and on Cox Broadcasting stations in Atlanta, Orlando and Charlotte, as well as Weigel Broadcasting stations in Chicago, Milwaukee and South Bend; and Sinclair Group stations in Pittsburgh, Greensboro, Richmond; among others.

ABC Owned Television Stations Group elevated John H. Idler to President/GM of WTVD/Raleigh-Durham. Previously, John was VP/GSM at WLS/Chicago. In his new role, John will manage operations for WTVD/ABC 11 including three digital TV channels and He follows Bernie Prazenica in this position who was recently upped to President/GM of WPVI/Philadelphia. All three stations are owned by ABC.

Greg Varhely advanced to VP/On Demand/Broadband and Video Production and Delivery at Rainbow Media. Greg will now supervise video production and delivery for the on demand platform and broadband for all of the company’s divisions. He will also spearhead all online activities including delivery of video content from Rainbow web sites to partner sites such as iTunes and YouTube. Greg reports to Dave Evans, SVP/Broadband. 

MarVista brought Marc B. Lorber on board to the newly-created position of SVP/Production.  He will develop Beyond the Break and other series into formatted programming, spearheading original production and acquisition expansion. He will report to President Michael D. Jacobs.  Since 2002, Marc has provided program consultancy services to various companies, most recently to Disney-ABC International TV.

Jerry Petry, EVP/Administration at NBC Universal Television, West Coast was elected Chairman of the non-profit Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation. Jerry was elected by the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its December 3 meeting and will serve in this volunteer role until the end of 2008.

Maria Faillace was appointed SVP/Production of CBS Films, the new film division within CBS Corporation. Maria will oversee the development and production of films in addition to finding new creative material for the studio. She will report to Amy Baer, President/CEO, CBS Films.

Telemundo named Manuel Martinez to the position of VP/GM of WSCV/Miami and Jose Valle as VP/GM of KVEA/Los Angeles

Trailblazer Studios hired Katye Rone as Sales Representative for its creative boutiques, Red Truck Films, Series Robots and Blazing Music + Sound.

Monday – A18-49 Analysis:  CBS began the week winning Monday night at 3.5/9 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. It was a close call at 8p, yet NBC’s Deal or No Deal with 3.1/9 was a smidge ahead of CBS’ comedies, How I Met Your Mother/Big Bang Theory at 3.1/8. At 9p, it was the same scenario as NBC’s Deal or No Deal won with 3.6/9 barely ahead of CBS’ other sitcoms, Two and a Half Men/Rules of Engagement at 3.5/9. Then at 10p, CBS’ CSI: Miami was the clear winner at 3.9/10
