Tonight’s Finales:
FX:  30 Days at 10p

Bravo will debut season two of its cooking competition series Top Chef on October 18 at 11p, which follows Project Runway’s third season finale. Top Chef will then move into its regular 10p timeslot on October 25. Hosting this season is actress and cookbook author, Padma Lakshmi and returning as Head Chef/Judge is Tom Colicchio.
The Sunday night season two finale of A&E Network’s documentary series Intervention brought in the best numbers for the series with 2.11 million total viewers and 1.44 million A18-49 viewers.

In the continuing battle between the network evening news broadcasts, Nielsen Media Research has reported NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams came in first, winning all five nights, for the week of August 21-25. NBC’s Nightly News drew in 8.15 million total viewers compared with ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson at 7.26 million total viewers and the CBS Evening News at 7.06 million viewers. With A25-54, NBC’s Nightly News also won all five nights last week, averaging a 2.2 rating, ahead of ABC’s 2.0 rating and CBS’ 1.9 rating.

The first season finale of ABC Family’s original series Kyle XY aired Monday night at 8p, and earned the title of the network’s most-viewed original series telecast ever with nearly 3 million total viewers. Among A18-49 the finale was the second most-watch original series telecast with just a little more than 1 million viewers. On average in its freshman year, Kyle XY is the network’s most-watched original series in the network’s history with nearly 2.2 million total viewers, 797,000 A18-49 viewers and 493,000 W18-49 viewers.

ESPN has reupped with the Big East Conference men’s basketball and football programs for an additional six year term.  The basketball deal begins in 2007, and the football in 2008. The deal calls for men’s basketball on Mondays and Thursday nights on either ESPN or ESPN2, as well as eleven regular season’s women’s basketball games.  The Big East men’s basketball championship and women’s conference championships will also be carried. On the gridiron, a minimum of 14 Big East games will play on ESPN or ESPN2 on either Thursday, Friday or Sunday evenings.  Additionally, at least three games will air on ABC.

Timeless Announces has been given a firm go to distribute in 1st qtr 2007 its series Know Your Heritage, a Jeopardy-style format similar to the College Bowl series. The distributor reports having received clearances in several top markets on ABC, CBS, NBC and CW affiliates.  Hosted by Greg Alan Williams (Remember The Titans), the quiz show format brings competing Historic Black College and University students together to showcase their knowledge and skill of African American history. Scholarship monies are awarded participating teams and the winning team receives an all-expense paid trip to Disney World.

Spike TV will launch its own broadband player on Content will include both programming from the network as well as original including Burning at the Thunderdome which chronicles the adventures of bungee jumpers at the Annual Burning Man Festival in Nevada and Spike’s Hottest Bartenders: NYC (tentative title) showcasing New York City’s best looking female bartenders.

Also announcing their own new broadband channel is the HorseTV Channel, called HorseTV Access. As of Monday, the channel will include a feed from the 2006 International Equestrian Federation World Equestrian Games from Germany.  After the games, HorseTV Access will begin its regular programming feeds on September 10.

The Weinstein Co. and Hubbard Media Group as well as a group of private investors, have acquired cable network Ovation: The Arts Network. Financial terms were not disclosed.  Ovation was originally launched in 1996 and is currently available in 5.3 million homes, and plans are in place to double that number within the next 12 months.  The new owners plan to relaunch the network, perhaps with a new name, tho the focus on the arts remains the same.

If you fancy, available at the website is the 2006-07 Primetime Broadcast Schedule wtih premiere dates.

ABC will add to its game show development slate with its newest project Show Me the Money from Endemol.  If this one sounds a little familiar, aside from its Jerry Maguire connection, that may be because this show was on the Fox slate last year, but that network has recently let the project go.  The game is trivia based wtih contestants guessing correct answers for big bucks.
