Cynopsis: Kids!
08/29/12

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 29, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Disney XD and ESPN team to premiere the new short-form series Disney XD ESPN Sport Science on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11a on Disney XD. Hosted by John Brenkus and Leo Howard, martial artist and star of the network’s series Kickin’ It, puts professional athletes to the test in state-of-the-art scientific facilities to examine the limits of human athletic abilities. The short form series, which features appearances by a range of professional athletes from various sports, showcases segments from ESPN’s series ESPN Sport Science, with each installment showcasing three segments, and with the hosts offering up experiments to test, such as the laws of gravity, momentum, speed and stamina. The debut episode, Full Contact, MLB Vision, Flips & Spins, examines the impact of a 300-pound heavy bag and features how San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis manages incoming forces to block, catch and run, while Howard tries to hit a 90-mph fastball and MLB batting champ Nomar Garciaparra tests the concept of keeping an eye on the ball. Howard also tries on special eye tracker glasses and looks into how free style skier, Simon Dumont, keeps track of what is up and down while performing flipping.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures unveils first feature length Lego 3D computer animated movie will star Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pratt and Morgan Freeman, who will lend their voices to Lego minifigure characters. Directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) from their original screenplay, with the story by Dan Hageman & Kevin Hageman and Lord & Miller, based on Lego construction toys, the new Lego movie is slated for a February 28, 2014 release. The movie will be produced by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Roy Lee (The Departed, How to Train Your Dragon). The Lego film, an adventure comedy, follows Emmet (Pratt), an average, rule-following Lego minifigure who is mistaken as the key individual who will save the world. He is then drawn into a group of strangers who are on a quest to stop an evildoer, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly unprepared. Portraying Emmet’s fellow travelers are Freeman as an old mystic named Vitruvius, and Banks as the tough-as-nails Lucy. Arnett takes on the role of the Batman Lego minifigure. The movie, which has been associated with the title Lego: The Piece of Resistance but is not confirmed, will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Universal looks to Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to produce its feature film adaptation of author Dugald A. Steer’s popular kid’s book series Dragonology (12 books so far), per Heat Vision.
