Cynopsis: Kids!

08/25/10

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 25, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

imbee, a tween-centric social media company, launches Drew ( http://drew.imbee.com ), a new pop culture news site for tweens.  Drew, which by the way stands for the Dopest, Realist, Epic, Wrap-up, will feature anything and everything in entertainment, tech gadgets, sports, style and anything else important to tweens.  With a graffiti style logo, Drew aims to provide news on all these areas by getting information directly from sources and offer a story behind the story/headline/photograph.

Do your kids personally know all of the friends” they have accepted on their various social networks?  According to a new AOL survey conducted by The Nielsen Company, 54% of kids surveyed don’t.  Meanwhile, 41% of parents report knowing only half or less of their kid’s online friends.  As online safety and protecting reputations continue to be paramount for parents, AOL’s Paid Services Division releases its new Safe Social ( www.safesocial.com ) product this week.  AOL has licensed technology from Social Shield for Safe Social, which is designed to give parents a full 360 look at their kid’s life on social networks and, including a simple report card of their overall social networking activities and identifying potential red flags.  With the permission of their kid(s), Safe Social lets parents have access to their friend list as well as what their kids/teens are posting and photos.  Additionally, parents can also choose to get real-time email alerts about potential predator relationships (adult predators as well as bullies) and indications of risky behavior or negative references (e.g. posts about alcohol use, bullying, suicide related comments).  Safe Social is available for a free trial and will then run families $9.99/month.  Additionally, last month AOL introduced a free AOL Safety Toolbar ( www.safetytoolbar.aol.com) to help parents protect their kids/tweens/teens online.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Jessica Alba is in talks to star in Robert Rodriguez‘s new movie Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, which will be in 3D, per Heat Vision.  This time around, The Dimension movie will not star Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara in their roles as the Spy Kids from the first three Spy Kids movies (they are all grown up) or their spy parents Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, though they are expected to appear in the movie.  Instead, Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World revolves around Alba’s character, a retired spy and now mom of a baby and two tween step kids (aka the new Spy Kids), who returns to active spy duty.  The movie is set to begin production in Austin, Texas next month with a release date of August 19, 2011.

MHz Worldview will shift the kid-targeted animated series Mixed Nutz to Saturdays at 10:30a, from September 1, 2010, as well as on MHz Networks 1 (MHz Worldview DC) Wednesdays at 10:30a.  From Big Bad Boo Studios, Mixed Nutz revolves around a group of five friends from different places and backgrounds all trying to fit in.  The series also airs on several public TV stations, and on Shaw TV (Canada), Suomi TV (Finland), Ebru TV and GemTV (middle East).  The series is available in 31+ million US households via broadcast, cable and satellite affiliates.  Additionally, interactive games, downloads, short clips from the series, and programming information can be found at www.mixednutzshow.com .

  Who am I?  I’m a mechanic by trade and currently work at Wally’s.  My favorite pastimes include playing checkers and reading comic books, and fish, of course. I also do a really bad impression of Cary Grant.  Who am I?  GOOBER!  Kudos to: Jess Brallier-Poptropica/Boston; Brad Stern/NY; Kathy May-Fisher Price Inc./East Aurora; Todd Tarpley-Nielsen/NY; Squirrel Rippley-Dark Horse Media/Tucson; Pat Brady-CESD/LA; Jeff Holder-FlyOver Projects/PDT;

Today’s Trivia Question:   Who am I?  I drive a Mach 5 with buttons on the steering wheel to adjust road tracking, move obstacles out of my way, transform the car into something else completely.  Who am I?  (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
