~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Beginning September 10, NBC News will expand Today to four full hours every day. Hosting this new hour will be Anchor Ann Curry, National Correspondent Natalie Morales and Correspondent Hoda Kotb. The show will also sprinkle in the occasional special guest co-anchor.

Broadcast Evening News Ratings Update: ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson is holding steady in first place across the board. Here are the results for week of August 6, 2007:
ABC: 7.81 million total viewers – 2.0/8 A25-54
NBC: 7.49 million total viewers – 1.8/8 A25-54
CBS: 6.02 million total viewers – 1.5/6 A25-54

When the season finale of Painkiller Jane airs next month on the Sci Fi Channel, it will also be its series finale.  The network has decided not to renew the show for another season.  Sci Fi had ordered and will air all 22 episodes, with the finale schedule for September 21st.

The Season #3 premiere of Showtime‘s Weeds on Monday night drew in 824,000 total viewers, up by 43% over last year’s premiere.  Good news for Weeds, even better for Californication which had its series premiere immediately following at 1030p and delivered 550,000 viewers.

Just a month prior to its second anniversary, The Africa Channel made a new distribution agreement to launch internationally via Sky, the multi-channel television platform in the U.K. and Ireland, officially launching on September 3rd. In preparation, the network has acquired additional series including the scripted drama Jacob’s Cross; two reality competition shows: Dance Africa and Project Fame Africa; the music series Urban Massive and the sports series DHL Sports Africa. These new programs will also air in the U.S.

“Happy Birthday to Live with Regis and Kelly”! – It’s been 20 years since the morning talk show began in national syndication, and marking the achievement the show will throw a two-week on-air bash starting September 3. Hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will highlight past, memorable moments of the show each day, and the party will end with an hour-long special on September 14 featuring who else? – Kathie Lee Gifford.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Ramping up to the fall premieres … new and returning series are ramping up on cast additions, according to Hollywood Reporter:

  • Joining the list of regulars on CBS’ CSI: NY (Wed at 10p) is AJ Buckley who plays lab techie Adam Ross.
  • In a recurring role on NBC’s Friday Night Lights (Fri at 9p) is Benny Ciaramello.
  • The ABC drama series Women’s Murder Club (Fri at 9p) based on characters developed by crime novelist James Patterson, has added Ever Carradine and Kyle Secor in recurring roles.
  • And Desperate Housewives on ABC (Sun at 9p) will find a new couple is moving onto Wisteria Lane, the series first gay couple played by Kevin Rahm and Tuc Watkins.

Lifetime has given a script commitment to a 4-part miniseries called Maneater, based on the book from Gigi Levangie Grazer (who also penned the novel Starter Wife). The story is about a model and “It Girl” who uses her feminine charms to catch Hollywood’s hottest producer, and then realizes he’s not all he’s cracked up to be. Surprise.

A new show coming to Fox and it may be as early as this fall, reports Variety — gamer Nothing But the Truth from Lighthearted Entertainment where a contestant is hooked up to a lie detector, and in front of family and friends, asked a wide variety of questions.  The more question asked and answered truthfully, the more money they earn.
