Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 19, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

The digitally re-mastered Imax version of Warner Bros.‘ movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has grossed just over $20 million in box office receipts ($188,998 per screen avg.), making it the first digitally re-mastered 2D IMAX release to achieve that milestone.  Of the seven films grossing $200+ million in 2005, three were released by Warner Bros. simultaneously in traditional movie theaters and in Imax theatres: Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

4Kids Entertainment, Inc. has formed 4sight licensing solutions, inc., the new division will focus on marketing and licensing brands specifically targeted to tweens, teens and adults.  4sight licensing solutions will be based at the 4Kids Entertainment HQ in NYC.

Blinkx, the internet audio/video search service, has entered into a partnership with Zango to offer entertainment content (e.g. games, videos, downloads) available via its service.

Action sports film producer Union has inked a distribution deal with Dish Network.  Under the deal, Union’s surf, snow, skate, BMX and motocross films will be available via Dish Network’s video-on-demand service.  In May, Dish Network will feature Unions’ film, Circle One, a Josh Williams surf film about the Quiksilver surf team; and in June, Letting Go, a surf film featuring Kelly Slater will be available.  A stand-alone independent entertainment company, Union is a joint venture between Quiksilver Entertainment, Inc. and Global Media Ventures, LLC.

Nick Jr. launches season two of Lazytown (22 x 30 min new eps) on Monday, May 15 at 12p.  Throughout that week Nick Jr. will feature a new episode of Lazytown each day, followed on Friday May 19 by a marathon of the new episodes from the week, airing from 12-2p.  Nick Jr. will also feature two new music videos and character clips from the second season of Lazytown across Nickelodeon’s preschool TV platforms from May 8.  Additionally, beginning May 8, Nick Jr. Video, a broadband video service on, will stream the new LazyTown music videos and character clips.  Finally, starting June 5, Lazytown season two episodes will be featured on video-on-demand on Comcast, Charter, Cablevision, Verizon FiOS and Cox.

The N has shifted the launch date of the recently acquired series Summerland (26 x 60 min) to Monday, May 1 at 8p.  Among the other series joining The N’s programming line-up this year are Beyond the Break (June 2); Whistler (June 30); and Dawson’s Creek (September 1).

Vivendi Universal Games will publish an Eragon videogame set for release this November 2006.  The Eragon videogame is based on Fox’s upcoming movie and Christopher Paolini’s bestselling fantasy/adventure novel of the same name.  Eragon the movie is slated to open December 12, 2006.  Stormfront Studios is developing the Eragon game for PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and for the PC, and Amaze Entertainment is creating the game for Sony’s PSP, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.

Ingemi Corp. has introduced iHearsafe low decibel earbuds designed specifically for use by kids.  The iHearsafe headphones are designed to help prevent hearing loss in kids from listening to volume set too loudly.  The iHearsafe limits the volume that can come through the earbuds, so no matter how high the volume is turned up on any given device, the headphones will not allow more than 80 decibel’s to come through.  The volumes are set according to the safety guidelines created by the Dept. of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration.

Scholastic Media and Leapfrog Enterprises Inc., will release the new software title Scholastic Animal Genius for Leapfrog’s Leapster in July 2006.  Animal Genius focuses on teaching early life-science concepts about animals.  The Leapster early learning game system is targeted for use by kids in grades K-2.

Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have solidified deals for the voice cast of Superman Returns: The Videogame. Voices and likeness included are Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, Parker Posey and Sam Huntington, all of whom star in Warner Bros. upcoming movie Superman Returns.  Both the movie and videogame are set for release June 28, 2006.  Superman Returns: The Videogame is currently in development by EA Tiburon, and will be released for Xbox 360 as well as current generation platforms and handheld game systems.


Rebecca Candler has been appointed Sr. Product Manager/Fremantle Home Entertainment UK.  In this role, she will oversee and develop the ongoing relationships with DVD labels represented by FHE.  Additionally, Candler will be responsible for creating and developing marketing campaigns to support releases from these labels as well as FHE’s label and to build brand awareness of the division.  Candler will be based in London and will report to Michelle Donovan, Marketing Manager, FHE.  Candler joins FremantleMedia from Warner Home Video where she was Sr. Product Manager/Television and Special Interest.

Peter Diemer has been named to the newly created position of EVP/Hip Digital Media Inc.  A digital media veteran, Diemer will play a key role in the company’s expansion.  Hip Digital Media is a business-to-business digital music sourcing and licensing service.
