Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 13, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing. 

The Hub will premiere the new special Chuck’s Big Air Dare (1×60), based on the Tonka Chuck & Friends brand and the network’s animated series The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, on Friday, April 22 at 10a.  A Hasbro Studios production, Chuck’s Big Air Dare features a theme song by Clint Black and the voice of actor Corbin Bleu.  A DVD of the animated special released last month.  The Hub is also featuring the Chuck & Friends Big Air Dare Sweepstakes ( ) now through April 17.


Italy’s Rainbow and Nickelodeon enter into a multi-territory broadcast deal for the animated series PopPixie (52×13), based on characters originally featured in the animated series Winx Club.  Under the new agreement, Nickelodeon will bring the K4-10 targeted series to its channels in the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Benelux, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Easter Europe, CIS, and Africa, from later this year and throughout 2012.  Earlier this year Viacom, parent company of Nickelodeon, acquired a minority stake in Rainbow.  Last year Nickelodeon and Rainbow entered into a worldwide partnership for Winx Club, which includes the co-production of seasons five and six of the series.  Leading up to this pact, Rainbow has inked deals for PopPixie with RAI (Italy), France 3, Clan TVE, Canal Panda (Portugal), Junior and MTV3 (Finland), CTC (Russia), M-Net (Africa), Kanal D (Turkey), MBC (Middle East and North Africa), and Noga (Israel).

Big Idea Entertainment makes its content available via a mobile VeggieTales channel on Sprint TV.  Much of the programming featured includes songs and VeggieTales DVD titles.  Sprint TV will offer a free preview week for its Spring mobile phone customers April 18-24, during which they can view clips of VeggieTales: An Easter Carol DVD by texting “Veggie” to 43888 on their phone.

Teletoon (Canada) will host and Easter holiday weekend movie marathon, Basket Full O’Bugs, April 22-25 (each day from 9a), including animated movies featuring Bugs Bunny, as well as live-action animal themed movies.  The Basket Full O’Bugs marathon line-up features movie titles including: The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie; Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters; Bugs Bunny’s 1001 Rabbit Tales; The Bugs Bunny, Road Runner Movie; Tom & Jerry and the Magic Ring; Babe: Pig in the City; Charlotte’s Web (2006, live-action); Happily N’Ever After; Chicken Run; Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit; Hoot; and Daffy Duck’s Fantastic Island

Toronto-based Skywriter Media and Entertainment Group completed a number of new deals and renewals across various genres at MIPTV.  In the kid-targeted programming arena, Skywriter a free TV deal for Atomic Betty (78×30) with Media Prima Group (Malaysia), and Echo TV Productions (Middle East) picks up The Wumblers (26×11), Planet Echo season 1 (13×30), and This Is Turtle Island (13×30).

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is set to release the new musical movie Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, starring Ashley Tisdale reprising her role from the Disney Channel High School Musical franchise, on Blue-ray and DVD on April 19, 2011.  A three-minute sneak peek of the movie, which follows the small town diva adventures with her dog in NYC, at .  Bonus features include, bloopers (Blu-ray and DVD), Austin Cam (Blu-ray and DVD) featuring footage filmed by actor Austin Butler on the set of the movie, in which he also stars, and The Evolution of Sharpay (Blu-ray only), which follows the development of the character from the first High School Musical movie until now.  Simultaneously on April 19, Walt Disney Records will release the digital soundtrack from Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, featuring six new songs performed by Tisdale and others.  The nationwide release date for the eight-song physical soundtrack is May 17.

SpongeBob SquarePants jumps into the world of THQ‘s of uDraw GameTablet for Wii with the new game SpongeBob SquigglePants.  The game is hosted by Patchy the Pirate, who guides players through 100+ “Nanogames,” challenging them in draw, tilt, tap, drag, press and flick their way through six different worlds.  Patchy also makes appearances throughout the game and interacts with players.  SpongeBob SquigglePants is rated E for everyone.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games release the Lego Battles: Ninjago for the Nintendo DS systems in North America.  Based on the new Lego Ninjago product line, the game debuts in Australia today, and this Friday, April 15 in Europe and other PAL territories.  Lego Battles: Ninjago is produced by TT Games, under license from the Lego Group, and developed by Hellbent Games.  The game is rated E for everyone.  The Lego Ninjago TV series will air on Cartoon Network in the US later this year.

Atlantyca Entertainment furthers its Geronimo Stilton property by partnering with publishers to launch the first Geronimo Stilton magazines.  Atlantyca magazine partners include Baeckens Books for Belgium and The Netherlands, and Grupo Z for Spain.

  • Baeckens Books, which publishes the Geronimo Stilton book series in Belgium, will launch the first Dutch-language Geronimo Stilton magazine (36-page, bi-monthly) this month, with a first-issue printing of 360,000 copies.
  • Grupo Z will launch a Spanish-language Geronimo Stilton magazine this Friday, April 15. The 68-page monthly Revista Oficial Geronimo Stilton will debut with a first-issue printing of 70,000 copies.  Grupo Z is supporting the launch with an extensive marketing campaign that includes spot advertising on kid’s TV channels and radio stations, and a print campaign in kid’s magazines. Editorial Planeta publishes the Geronimo Stilton books in Spain.


Nathan Coyle is named to the newly created position of GM, Cambio ( ), the new teen/young-adult targeted interactive online entertainment network formed by AOL, MGX Lab, and the Jonas Group.  Coyle will oversee Cambio’s day-to-day business, including content production, web platform development, ad sales, and operations.  Prior to this Coyle was with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), where he served as a Business Development Agent, with a focus on digital content.

KidsCo appoints Loic Autret as GM/Global Distribution and Chris Nicholls as Global head/Sales and Marketing.  Autret, a former Disney executive, will head the distribution group in expanding the channel worldwide.  Nicholls, who had been an ESPN International executive, will oversee worldwide advertising and sponsorship, including localized media opportunities, regional sponsorships, and advertiser funded programming across KidsCo’s multimedia platforms.


Nickelodeon‘s premiere of the special iCarly episode, iOMG, on Saturday, April 9, at 8p, drew 7.4 million Total Viewers, and was the top basic cable telecast for the week with viewers P2+.  Across all TV, iCarly iOMG was the top show on all TV with K2-11 (3.5 million) an increase over last year of +153%, K6-11 (2.6 million) up +173%, and with Tweens 9-14 (2.6 million) a boost of +231%.  Year to date, iCarly iOMG becomes basic cable’s top kids’ telecast with total viewers.  The iCarly lead out was a new episode of Big Time Rush at 8:30p, which earned the series its best telecast with K6-11 (2.4 million) and Total Viewers (5.7 million) since the series premiere in January 2010.

Disney Channel‘s new preschool block, Disney Junior, which debuted February 14, 2011, builds launch to date with K2-5 (447,000) an increase of +38%, and among Boys 2-5 (245,000) and Girls 2-5 (201,000) up by +48% and +26% respectively.  Disney Junior’s Saturday, April 9 play of Jake and the Never Land Pirates was the top TV telecast of the week among K2-5 (1.1 million), and also hit series highs with Total Viewers (2.9 million) and Women 18-149 (632,000).
