Good morning. It’s Tuesday, September 2, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
The CW: 90210 at 8p
Planet Green: Stuff Happens at 9p
FX: The Shield at 10p
Golf Channel: School of Golf: Hilton Head Island at 11p

Tonight’s Finale:
ABC: Wanna Bet at 902p

Republican National Convention coverage began Monday night (although the GOP truncated RNC events due to Hurricane Gustav) and will continue through Thursday night (check listings for networks/times)

According to Nielsen, the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention last Thursday, which featured Presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, drew in a combined total of 38.4 million total viewers from ten networks offering live coverage from approximately 10-11p: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo. The combined total from the ten networks among A18-49 viewers was 16.0 million. PBS got a bump in total viewers for its coverage Thursday night between 8-11p to 3.5 million.

As the CW Network prepares to launch the first of its new fall shows tonight, Tribune owned CW affiliates in some cities have been busy stripping “CW” out of its marketing plan.  In Houston, KHCW has received new call letters – KAIH; in Dallas CW33 is now known as The 33; and Washington DC’s CW50 is now referred to as DC50, reports Variety.  These changes follow the San Diego Tribune station which switched affiliations from The CW to Fox a few months ago.  Tribune’s WPIX in New York City is still known as CW11, at least online, as Variety points out.

IFC will offer its viewers a series of six news segments surrounding the 2008 Presidential election. The weekly segments begin tonight with highlights from the recent Democratic National Convention in Denver and future segments will follow on Tuesday nights with coverage from the Republican National Convention, ending with a segment in October that takes a look inside both Senators Obama and McCain’s political campaigns.

BBC is jumping into American politics and will broadcast news and information for its global US08 Election coverage via a bus tour over 38 days. In addition to offering TV, radio and online coverage, BBC will have 12 unique BBC World Service language teams joining the bus tour.

People magazine will feature CBS’ fall lineup with exclusive ads in the September 22 issue. Twenty ads in total will sport artwork depicting characters from returning shows leading into new CBS shows making their premiere this fall.

With a sad and heavy heart I share with you an email I received on Friday from Scott Carlin at HBO regarding Tommy Cerio’s wife and one true love, Donna, which reads in part:  “In the fading moments of summer 2008, Friday August 29th at approximately 3:30 am, Donna [Arnold] Cerio made her transition. As she lived her life, this moment came in peace, at home, wrapped in the tender, loving embrace of her husband Tommy. A life extinguished, yes, but Donna’s life force lives-on in many ways, none more so than through the spirit and love that radiates from her son’s Dom and Vic and of course, Tommy.”  A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 6 at 10am, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Riverside, CT.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of California, San Francisco, Attn: Stanley B. Prusiner, M.D., Box 0518, San Francisco, CA 94143-0518.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: The browser wars are heating up again. Google is launching a new open-source browser called Chrome in about 100 countries later today, designed as a streamlined platform to display web pages and run popular Google applications. (Click here to check out a comic book that spells out its features.) Chrome seems to borrow bits and pieces from other popular browsers including tab buttons enabling you to switch back and forth between open windows (a la Firefox,) and web apps that can be launched in their own browser window without an address or toolbar. Other handy features include an “incognito” privacy mode allowing users to cover their tracks from subsequent users (known as InPrivate in the newest Internet Explorer browser.) Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: The weekend proved a significant one for Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight, which swooped through the $500 million marker in domestic box office receipts, reaching $504.7 million, according to the weekend estimates reported by Box Office Mojo.  The Dark Knight reached the milestone in just 45 day, and is now the second biggest domestic grossing movie ever behind Paramount’s Titanic (1997), which still holds strong in first place with $600.8 million.  Titanic too 91 days to reach pour through $500 million.  The movie is expected to top out at about $530 million domestically, per just about every analyst and every report everywhere on earth.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.

Is Azteca America on your radar screen?
