Cynopsis

09/25/07

Good Morning.  It’s Tuesday, September 25, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

A handful of changes at MSNBC – Dan Abrams will stay on air in primetime with Live with Dan Abrams at 9p, but with the move of MSNBC from New Jersey to the mothership at 30 Rockefeller Plaza next month, Phil Griffin will take over the administrative head duties of the network as GM.  And Morning Joe, which replace Imus after his political snafu, will stay in the 6a-9a time period.

Tonight’s Premieres:
CBS: NCIS at 8p, The Unit at 9p and Cane at 10p
FOX: Bones at 8p and House at 9p
The CW: Reaper at 9p
BBC America: Ultimate Force at 9p
ABC: Boston Legal at 930p
NBC: Law & Order: SVU at 10p

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

CBS’ series premiere of Cane tonight at 10p is sponsored in full by Chevrolet and this first episode will appear with limited commercial breaks. Chevrolet also supports the Secondary Audio Program (SAP) which will simulcast Cane in Spanish throughout the season. In addition Cane’s first three episodes will be re-broadcast on Spanish-language Azteca America network starting September 29 at 10p. Cane is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television in association with ABC Studios.

Finally!  The official announcement was made – AMC will renew its first original scripted drama Mad Men for a sophomore season.  Produced by Lionsgate, Mad Men’s season one finale will air October 18 at 10p.

EchoStar’s DISH Network will be the first provider to offer the 24-hour natural wellness lifestyle channel Veria TV. The network will showcase programs on topics such as food and nutrition, travel, exercise, alternative medicine and holistic health. Veria TV will be offered as part of DISH’s America’s Top 250 package or separately for $2.99 per month. During October, subscribers can preview the channel for free via DISH’s Preview Showroom.

Prior to their linear launches, the new Food Network shows Gourmet Next Door and 2 Dudes Catering will debut on Food Network On Demand October 8. The shows will premiere on the network October 14 and October 16 respectively. Additional episodes of both series will be available On Demand through November.

NBC Universal and Cox Communications will present a free trial offer of five NBC primetime shows via On Demand, exclusively to Cox Digital Cable subscribers in Orange County and Palos Verdes, CA. The shows include 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Las Vegas and the new Life and Bionic Woman. Episodes will be available on Cox’s On Demand service the day after they premiere on the network.

Sunday night’s opening episode of the much-anticipated documentary The War on PBS attracted an estimated 15.5 million viewers turned in for at least part of the 8-1030p broadcast and posted an average 5.0/7 HH rating across the 56 metered market stations monitored by PBS. The WWII film, directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, continues tonight and Wednesday and next week on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The War is produced by Florentine Films and WETA/Washington, DC.

Lifetime Television will give brides-to-be an early morning dose of wedding information with Get Married, the daily 30m series airing at 730a starting October 1. The series is hosted by celebrity wedding planner David Tutera offers tips, honeymoon destinations, fashions and more.

IMHO:  Chuck was likable enough for a return visit; Big Bang Theory had a couple of good lines, but just one joke; Dancing with the Stars kicked off nicely, tho fake kisses to camera always seem … odd; The Bachelor isn’t bad to look at; fell asleep before Journeyman.  I’m just sayin’.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

TV One cast national radio brother team Doug and Ryan Stewart, known as “The 2 Live Stews” to host season two of Black Men Revealed which will return during first quarter next year. The eight-episode, one-hour show invites males from various experiences and backgrounds to discuss frank topics surrounding the myths and truths of black men. Based in Atlanta, the brother’s syndicated sports show is available in 23 markets and also airs nationally on XM Satellite Radio Channel 169 The Power. Black Men Revealed is produced by MacVision, Another Bright Idea Entertainment and King Artist Management.

Cast in the lead role of TNT‘s new drama project Leverage is Timothy Hutton.  The story is about an insurance investigator who uses the bad guys he investigates to go after the greedy “good” guys.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes of the anthology series Fear Itself, to be scheduled for air next summer.  Each episode of the series will feature top horror genre directors and writers.  The project is from Industry Entertainment and Lionsgate.

Lifetime has cast the two lead roles in its pilot project Long Island Confidential with Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Alison Elliott.  Elliott plays a detective, and Santiago-Hudson her boss.
