Scholastic hosts Harry Potter Cover to Cover Day, an all day read-a-thon celebrating the 10th anniversary of the US release of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone today (beginning at 8a and through 7p or when the last words are read) at the publishers headquarters in NYC (557 Broadway) and webcast at www.scholastic.com/readharry. Those in attendance will get a chance to read aloud a passage from HP and the Sorcerer’s Stone, along with celebrities including Marcia Gay Harden and KayCee Stroh (High School Musical 3). Couple of notes for those who want to read aloud, readers will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis, so – if you want to read aloud I’d suggest getting there ASAP. Also, because the event is webcast live, those readers under 18 must come with a parent/guardian. To will also mark the anniversary by publishing a special anniversary edition of the book, which includes an exclusive drawing of Snape and a description both by Rowling, and new book jacket artwork and frontispiece by Mary GrandPre.
Did you say Harry Potter? OK just one more bit of HP news (Marcia, Marcia, Marcia) … Scholastic will release the paperback edition of J.K. Rowling’s final Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 7, 2009, with an initial printing run of 2 million copies. The hardcover edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released on July 21, 2007, and since then has sold 14 million copies.
