Good Morning, it’s Tuesday, September 11, 2007 and this is your first early morning digital briefing. 

The digital production model may start resembling the TV one if a new plan by Warner Bros. is any indication. WB’s digital production arm Studio 2.0 announced a new slate of 23 short form projects for broadband and wireless and, according to The New York Times, will begin paying the upfront costs for the productions instead of trying to line up sponsorships beforehand. Studio 2.0’s current production slate includes three new live action puppet series produced with Jim Henson Company and RealNetworks, a 3D animation project with artist Alex Pardee and a 10-project commitment with comedians Joey Manderino and David Young, creators of web series joeyanddavid.com.
 

~ MULTIPLATFORM CONTENT NEWS ~
 

The CBS Audience Network announced partnerships with 29 CBS O&Os, 144 CBS Radio stations and up to 183 affiliated station websites to expand the platform’s reach to offer geographical targeting to national advertisers. Locally-produced news, weather and sports coverage will be available for pick-up by any sites within the network. In exchange, local partner sites will gain access to national CBS Entertainment, News and Sports video content.
 
After declining to join the News Corp./NBCU joint venture Hulu.com, ABC is in talks with several internet portals including AOL, Comcast, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo to form its own digital distribution platform, according to Mediaweek. Central to ABC’s strategy is to require partners to offer content through its proprietary video player, thereby insuring a quality user experience.
 
Online subscription service CableU.tv added profiles of 90 top cable networks to its site found in a new section called Network Profiles. The overviews, which now total 120 networks in all, include subscriber counts, programming genres, key executives and other helpful information. Look for an exclusive interview with Fox Reality Channel President David Lyle in the new section this month.  CableU is a partnership between CABLEready and Cynopsis.
 
CBS Radio’s all news station 1010 WINS and real-time video community Paltalk will host a live interactive newscast this morning from the Ground Zero Ceremony on Paltalk.com and 1010wins.com from 8:30 am ET to commemorate the 6th anniversary of 9/11.

Comedy site My Damn Channel is launching a branded channel on MySpaceTV to increase distribution of its original content from artists including Harry Shearer, David Wain and Andy Milonakis. 
 
Mobile services provider Veveo launched vTap, a mobile search engine for video clips now available for the iPhone and Microsoft Windows Mobile devices.
 
To celebrate the beginning of Yom Kippur on September 21 broadband network JewishTVNetwork.com is planning to stream Kol Nidre, the holiest Jewish prayer, from LA’s oldest synagogue. Other High Holiday content will include Israel news, cooking tips and children’s entertainment.
 

~ TECHNOLOGY DEALS, MERGERS AND SKIRMISHES ~

 
Apple is the latest tech powerhouse to consider stepping up to the plate to bid for the 700Mhz wireless spectrum the FCC is auctioning off on Jan. 16, according to Business Week. The spectrum could be used to provide faster and cheaper network access for Macs, iPods and iPhones, potentially increasing the market for the devices exponentially. Apple also announced it sold its 1 millionth iPhone exactly 74 days after its release on June 29.

~ DIGITAL ADVERTISING ~

 
WPP acquired interactive agency Schematic, one of the largest independent digital agencies left in the U.S. The Los Angeles-based firm works with top brands on web, interactive television, mobile and cross-platform campaigns.
 
Nielsen unveiled a new ad monitoring service to help agencies with the chore of “Keeping Trac” of where, when and if their clients’ spots ran. Carat is the first agency to sign-up for the system, which tracks commercial airings on a daily or weekly basis to see if Gross Ratings Point commitments have been achieved.
 

~ TRENDS, RESEARCH, ETC.  ~

 
Despite the massive online marketing push teens are still gaining awareness of new shows more from TV ads and promos than new media sources, according to new research from Online Testing eXchange and Hearst Magazine Digital Media’s eCRUSH network. The CW’s Gossip Girl came back tops in awareness among teens 13-17, followed by NBC’s Bionic Woman, CBS’ Kid Nation and ABC’s Caveman in a three-way tie for second.

Former COO of Palisades MediaGroup Bruce Dennier was named President of Nielsen Entertainment. He will head up measurement of the film, home entertainment, music, interactive, book and live event sectors, reporting to Dave Thomas in Los Angeles, President of Media Client Services.

appointed former CBS publicist Johanna Fuentes to VP/Communications, reporting to Cameron Blanchard, SVP/Communications. She will oversee publicity for docu-dramas and competition reality programs as well as work on media outreach for broadband and wireless initiatives.  
 
Gorilla Nation tapped former Yahoo executive Matt Stodder as VP/Sales Strategy & Operations. Matt will be responsible for integrated sales initiatives for the company’s larger premier properties.
 
Heavy.com hired former Microsoft global trade GM Eric Hadley to serve as Chief Marketing Officer, the second major appointment for the video sharing site during the past week.
 
P2P music service Qtrax hired Christopher Roe as Chief Technology Officer. Christopher comes to Qtrax from Interpublic Group’s AFG Interactive.

Sony-owned video sharing site Crackle launched a new channel called Moving Targets, showcasing freestyle comedy sketches from some of the best-known quantities in web entertainment.
