Lionsgate acquires the worldwide rights to develop, produce and distribute feature films based on the popular Chaos Walking young adult trilogy by author Patrick Ness and published by Candlewick Press in the US and Walker Books in the UK. Doug Davison (The Departed, How To Train Your Dragon, The Grudge) will produce the movies based on the books through his Quadrant Pictures. The novels are set in a dystopian future where humans colonize a distant earth-like planet. Society breaks down further when an infection, called the Noise, takes over and makes all though audible, privacy is instantly a thing of the past and chaos ensues. At the same time a corrupt autocrat threatens to take control of the human settlements and wage war with the indigenous alien race. The only hope is young Todd Hewitt, who holds the key to stop the destruction. The three books that make up the trilogy are The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One, The Ask and the Answer: Chaos Walking: Book Two, and Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking). Lionsgate is currently producing the feature film The Hunger Games (releasing March 23, 2012), an adaptation of the first book in the hugely popular The Hunger Games book, which is also set in a dystopian world.
