Netflix is on the hunt for cable distribution deals that would allow cable-TV subscribers to access a Netflix app through set-top boxes, reports the Wall Street Journal. The streaming video service is in early talks with Comcast Corp. and Suddenlink Communications, according to the paper, but “no deal is imminent.” Netflix has made a similar arrangement with U.K.’s Virgin Media.
Now it’s A-lister Susan Sarandon who’s ready for a series regular role on the small screen. Joining Halle Berry and Meg Ryan, both with TV projects in the works, Sarandon will star in Growing Ivy, a mother/daughter comedy pilot for NBC from Le Train Train, starring and conceived by her daughter, Eva Amurri Martino.
CBS‘s The Big Bang Theory commands the highest ad rates outside of football, according to a new Adweek survey: $326,260 for a 30-second spot. NBC‘s higher-rated The Voice nabs $257,435 and ABC‘s Modern Family earns $256,963. The survey of media buyers lists NBC’s The Blacklist as the priciest new series ($198,667) and Fox‘s Sleepy Hollow the biggest bargain, at $139,120.
The Bachelor‘s Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici, who got engaged on the 17th edition of the ABC dating show in November 2012, could make history by becoming the first Bachelor couple to make it from proposal all the way to “I do” (two Bachelorettes made it to the altar, while one Bachelor married his runner-up). The wedding airs live on Sunday, January 26 at 8p.
Further blurring the lines between linear and digital content, Comedy Central dismantled its digital group, reorganizing executive responsibilities to facilitate multiplatform oversight. “Our fans don’t use the word ‘digital’ to talk about content,” said Comedy President Michele Ganeless, “and now, neither do we.”
Superheroes take over PBS tonight, in a three-hour documentary about the cultural impact of the comic book genre. DVD and Blu-Ray versions of Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle were released today as well; the doc airs at 8p.
ABC morning show The View will broadcast live from The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA, November 18-22, coinciding with the 85th “birthday” of Mickey Mouse on November 18. The trip allows the NYC-based show to tap into Hollywood talent, including the net’s own Jimmy Kimmel.
UP is turning itself into a Christmas channel again this year, starting November 18, with more than 400 hours of holiday programming. “America’s families love it,” UP’s EVP, programming Leslie Glenn Chesloff tells Cynopsis, “as evidenced by the 55 percent ratings growth that we saw last year.” To brighten this season, the net’s offerings include eight original and premiere movies and two Christmas specials, and a My Big Fat Waltons Thanksgiving marathon.
Hoarding Alive digs deep when it comes back for a fifth season on TLC, exploring the psychology behind the bizarre behavior of people who can’t let go. The Discovery Studios production returns Wednesday, October 30 at 10p.
The online version of BRKDWN makes its season two debut today on YouTube, a day after its television premiere on Bounce. The entertainment show from Bunim/Murray Productions “was conceived to live on television and online at the same time,” said SVP of Digital Media Daniel Tibbets. “Our goal is to broaden our online base even further and drive viewing across all platforms.”
Season three of Discovery‘s Yukon Men has the guys emerging from a brutal winter only to face trying family situations. The Paper Route Productions series returns Sunday, October 20 at 10p.
IFC is bringing back Bang! Bang! for a third season. The quirky comedy series from Abso Lutely Productions will air in two ten-episode installments in 2014.
Jessica Walter has joined the cast of TV Land pilot Jennifer Falls. Walters will play Jennifer’s (Jaime Pressley) mother.
Christopher Cousins (Breaking Bad) has been added to the season two cast of NBC‘s Revolution. The drama airs Wednesdays at 8p.

Netflix has ordered a 13-ep thriller “that will have viewers on the edge of their seats,” said the net’s VP of original content Cindy Holland. The untitled drama comes from the creators of Damages.
Discovery Communications is developing a mob drama with producer Irwin Winkler and writer Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas). The Five Families, based on historic events, will launch as a global event on one or more of the company’s U.S. and international networks.
TNT has given a 10-ep order to a cooking show from Mark Burnett. Home chefs will compete to create a food business’s next menu item; the winning recipe will be available to order the next day. The show, from One Three Media, launches in 2014.
The CW issued a script order for an untitled terrorist drama. The project from producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Sleepy Hollow) is about a CIA recruit infiltrating her powerful recently discovered family. The team also sold a procedural to CBS, inspired by think tank entrepreneur Walter O’Brien.
U.K. comedian Humphrey Ker signed up for an ABC sitcom based on his life, called Terrible People, about a man trying to put a stop to his family’s awful behavior. Ker will also appear on season three of Showtime comedy Episodes.
U.K.‘s BT customers will have access to BSkyB‘s 11 Sky Movies channels starting October 26. In addition to more than 700 movies on demand, Sky offers exclusive premieres.
U.K.’s Vodafone completed its takeover of German cable company Kabel Deutschland, preparing it for expansion in the territory.
21st Century Fox inked a deal with Deutsche Fussball Liga for global rights to German soccer games, strengthening Fox International Channels‘ sports portfolio.

On E!‘s Hollywood Death Trip, scream queen Danielle Harris (Halloween) goes on a tour of LA’s most disturbing death sites. Spooky special airs Thursday, October 24 at 10p. The next night, the net lightens up as the Fashion Police squad dresses up for Halloween in a special airing at 9p.
Movies On Demand will air the television premiere of The Conjuring on October 22. Other eerie October releases include Warm Bodies, The Purge and Evil Dead.
Sundance Channel hopes to scare up some viewers with French zombie drama The Returned. The eight-part Music Box Films production premieres Thursday, October 21 at 9p.

AMC‘s The Walking Dead delivered the highest ratings in series history for its season four premiere Sunday night. The zombie drama delivered 16.1 million total viewers, and was the number one-rated show on television with 10.4 million viewers A18-49. The Talking Dead after show scored 5.1 million total viewers and 3.3 million A18-49.
NBC‘s Sunday Night Football dominated broadcast television Sunday night, according to Nielsen fast nationals, with a 7.3 rating/18 share and 19.65 million viewers. Fox came in second, with Major League Baseball playoffs drawing 2.4/6. America’s Funniest Home Videos made its 24th season bow on ABC to a premiere low of 1.1/3.
Counting Live+7 ratings for premiere week, the networks were up or flat versus last year. Fox jumped from being down 15 percent in A18-49 and down 13 percent in total viewers in Live+Same Day versus last year, to up 9 percent and 7 percent. NBC was up 6 percent and 17 percent, CBS was flat year-to-year in A18-49 and up 1 percent in total viewers and ABC was up 7 percent in A18-49 and down just one percent in total viewers with Live + 7.
The Friday premiere of MSNBC‘s Up Late with Alec Baldwin was up in total viewers in the time slot, with its average of 654,000 a 53 percent hike from last week, but down 7 percent from a week ago in the news demo (172,000). Fox News Channel‘s Hannity scored 1.5 million viewers and 338,000 in the demo.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: CBS and UMA grabbed the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.4/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. Fox’s MasterChef Junior won at 8p with 1.4/5, followed by CBS’s Undercover Boss at 1.3/5. ABC surged at 9p with Shark Tank (1.7/6) against UMA’s Mexico/Panama match (1.6/5). As the game heated up UMA had the field to itself, scoring 2.1/7 in the 10p hour opposite a 1.4/5 for CBS’s Blue Bloods.
