A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC CABLE DISTRIBUTION
NIP/TUCK Airing opposite broadcast competition: NIP/TUCK CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, October 11, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. Court TV has picked up the 13 episodes of Dick Wolf’s off-net series Law & Order: Trial By Jury. The show will make its Court TV debut in December, airing on Saturday evenings from 7-9p. Of the 13 eps, four are crossover eps with Law & Order and feature Jerry Orbach. Those four eps will also be seen on TNT. Current TV launched on August 1 with 20 million subscribers, and according to its Chairman, Al Gore, plans to raise that bar to 50 million in five years. Ad based Current TV is targeted at a youthful audience, typically 18-34, who are not passive participants, but prefer to become active players in the network. Approx 30% of the network’s programming is created by Citizen Journalists, people armed with a digital camera have created their own 2-10 minute pieces of work and submitted them to the Current TV website. There, they are vetted by online users, voted on and if lucky will appear on the network. In Al Gore’s words, this is all part of Current TV’s process to “democratize the dominant medium of television” and to “restart a multi-way conversation” between the network and its viewers. Current TV is currently carried on DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and Comcast Cable, among others. Tonight’s Premieres: Weekend Box Office Estimates: October 7-9, 2005 Comedian/actor Louis Nye died on Sunday at the age of 92 after a long struggle with cancer. Most recently Nye was seen on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm as the father of Jeff Garlin’s character. His first television role was on The Steve Allen Show where his line Hi Ho Steverino became a national catchphrase. Through the years, Nye guested on many television series including Love Boat, Starsky & Hutch, Love American Style, The Jackie Gleason Show, Cosby and St.Elsewhere. His also lent his voice to many episodes of Inspector Gadget, and teamed up with Steve Martin on two TV specials. Okay podcast fans – this one’s for you. Yahoo has launched Yahoo! The second pilot is called Tabloid Busters, where a team of experts work to bust the far-fetched and whacked out tabloid headlines (the Kangaroo Lady, two headed dogs, etc.). CBS has ordered 13 episodes of a new comedy for next season called The Class from David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik, and produced by Warner Bros. Television, according to Hollywood Reporter. The Class features an ensemble group of 20-somethings who are brought together after years of not seeing each other since they all attended the same third grade class. The show then follows how the lives of these six continue to intersect. David Crane is one of the creators of Friends; and Jeffrey Klarik a creator of Half & Half. A casting change in ABC‘s midseason crime drama Evidence – Rob Estes will be joining Martin Landau and Orlando Jones, replacing Nicky Katt. Estes will portray Inspector Sean Cole. Commander in Chief’s exec producer/creator, Rod Lurie stays on with the show, while also developing new series for Touchstone. Bochco will oversee the production. Paramount Network Television has signed three year production deals with Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green, the creative pair who wrote/produced The Sopranos for the past several years. The deal kicks off in June,. The WB has trimmed its midseason order of Bedford Diaries from its original 13 ep order, back to 8 episodes, including the pilot, says Variety. Bedford Diaries is set in a fictional NYC college, with a high concentration in the class taught by Matthew Modine’s character on elements of sex education.
