Cynopsis: Kids!
11/08/11

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 8, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Disney Interactive and YouTube are partnering to create family friendly video destinations on both Disney.com and YouTube.com beginning in early 2012.  The move is part of Disney Interactive’s ongoing effort to provide content to its fans wherever they are online.  Disney Interactive will produce and program the family-targeted co-branded video destinations for both platforms.  Programming will include video drawn from family-friendly content currently available across YouTube, original video produced by Disney, as well as a mix of current Disney Interactive original series, select Disney Channel programming and Disney user created content.  First up under the new deal will be a new original video series based on Disney’s recently launched mobile game Where’s My Water? and its main character Swampy, which is slated to launch in February and will be followed by other short-form, family-centric programming.  Disney Interactive also plans to re-launch Disney.com in fall 2012, and says this new Disney/YouTube destination will be key in its next generation platform.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Where’s Waldo? Soon he might be hard to miss.  MGM acquires the rights to bring Classic Media‘s Where’s Waldo? to the big screen in a live-action family targeted adventure movie.   Where’s Waldo was created by Martin Hanford and first published in 1987, and since then the Where’s Waldo books have sold 55+ million books worldwide, and there are multiple Where’s Waldo games, including selling 4.6+ million apps for iPhone and iPad.  This is not the first time that there have been plans make a Where’s Waldo feature film.  Previously Paramount and Nickelodeon had worked on developing a Where’s Waldo movie, followed by Universal and Illumination Entertainment.

LICENSING

Hoho Entertainment appoints Penguin Children’s Books as the publishing partner for its new CG animated preschool property, Cloudbabies, for the English-language rights worldwide (excluding North America).  Ladybird, an imprint of Penguin Children’s Books, is set to publish a series of book formats including storybooks, picture books, activity books and digital formats including e-books and apps based on Cloudbabies.  The first series of books are slated to be published in fall 2012.  Cloudbabies revolves around four childlike characters, Baba Pink, Baba Blue, Baba Yellow and Baba Green whose are responsible for looking after the sky and their Sky Friends.  The characters live together with Bobo White, a mischievous imp, in a house on a fluffy cloud.  The Cloudbabies series was created by art director, Bridget Appleby, will be animated in CGI by Manchester-based Studio Liddell, and was recently been acquired by CBeebies.

Big Tent Entertainment inks new licensing deals for Domo with newly expanded deal with master t-shirt licensee Fifth Sun and new partnership with Bioworld Merchandising.  Following on the success of its initial Domo product line, Fifth Sun, a graphic design and distribution company of licensed and private label apparel, expand its Domo apparel collection to include a range of new Domo t-shirts, thermals, tank tops and fleece hoodies for juniors, women and men at specialty and mass market retailers in the US and Canada.  Bioworld will launch a new line of juniors and men’s loungewear for fall 2012 along with rain boots for women and juniors. The group has also signed on to create Domo-branded electronic accessories, including headphones, ear buds and flash drives that will be available in summer 2012. The products will be sold at specialty and mid-tier retailers across US and Canada.

Atlantic Records appoints The Wish Factory as the toy licensee for the Australian teen pop singer/songwriter Cody Simpson.  Under the new licensing deal, The Wish Factory has the rights to create dolls, figures, playsets, key chains, plush koalas, concert kits, play-dance mats and guitars.  The initial line of Cody Simpson fashion dolls is set to debut at Toys “R” Us stores and on its website exclusive this December for holiday 2012.  The line is slated to expand to other retailers in spring and fall 2012.  Simpso’s newest release is the EP, Coast To Coast, featuring the songs On My Mind and Not Just You.
