Cynopsis: Kids!

11/06/07

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 6, 2007, and this is your first early morning.

Marvel-ous indeed. Marvel Entertainment has reported its 3Q 2007 results, which show that the company’s net income reached $36.3 million, almost three-times its earning from the same quarter last year, and thus exceeding Wall Street estimates.  What took Marvel to its new-exalted heights?  Marvel can thank licensing, which hit $66 million, or more than twice that of 3Q 2006.  Specifically, Spider-Man 3 licensing, which continues as a joint venture with Sony, helped the effort with sales of $24.2+ million.

MORE KIDS STUFF

It’ll be turkey and toons for Nickelodeon viewers over the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Nickelodeon has scheduled a Superstuffed Nicktoons Weekend, a 65-hour marathon of the network’s animated series, old and new, from 6a Thursday, November 22 through 9p on Sunday, November 25.  Overstuffed or not, kids are invited to log onto TurboNick.com where they can vote for their favorite Nicktoon moments, of which will be counted down on-air each day of the event in the 100 Greatest Moments in Nicktoons History.  Additionally, on Sunday evening (7-9p) the network will offer sneak peeks at the three new Nicktoons bowing in 2008, including The Mighty B!, which stars SNL’s Amy Poehler.  The weekend line-up goes like this:

  • Thursday, November 22 (6a-12a) – pilot episodes of Nicktoons (e.g. Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters etc.), and at night Nick Movies’ three animated Rugrats feature films
  • Friday, November 23 (6a-10p) – All SpongeBob SquarePants all day, concluding with four premiere episodes of the series (8-10p)
  • Saturday, November 24 (6a-10p) – Nicktoon series, three back-to-back episodes at a time; and later premiere episodes of Back at the Barnyard (8p) and Tak and the Power of Juju (8:30p)
  • Sunday, November 25 (6a-9p) – Nicktoons feature films and TV movies, and in the evening a look at the new Nicktoon series.

Elsewhere in the Nick family, Nicktoons Network will feature every full episode from the 100 Greatest Moments in Nicktoons History, 10 episodes each night from 9p, beginning November 22-25, 2007 and then every Monday following until December 31.

Disney Channel will feature a week of dance-themed episodes of the Playhouse Disney preschool series Little Einsteins, the week of December 3-7, 2007.  The week wraps up with the premiere of an all-new holiday episode, The Wind-Up Toy Prince, featuring Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, on Friday, December 7 at 9a.

Parthenon Entertainment is set to attend the Asia Television Forum, which will be held in Singapore later this month, with a range of kids and factual programming.  Content specifically targeted to kids includes:

  • Ed and Eppa in the Wild  a kid’s wildlife educational animated program about two aliens who travel to earth to explore and learn about animals and their habitats.  The series features specially shot HD wildlife footage with CGI animated content.
  • Hana’s Helpline (52×10), a mix of 3D puppet characters and 2D sets, the program features a duck named Hana, who helps animals with their various problems.
  • Roman Mysteries (20x30HD/10×60) is a family targeted live-action series about four kids and their adventures in Ancient Rome.  Commissioned by the BBC Children, the show is produced by the UK’s Little Entertainment Group.
  • On the factual side there are also some shows Parthenon will offer at ATF that will likely be interesting to teens and up including: How Does That Work? (18×30, also available in modular segments), an educational-informational science series that explains, how a range of things work.  The series is produced in-house by Parthenon for Discovery Channel UK.
