Cynopsis: Kids!
11/30/10

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 30, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Jackson Rathbone (Twilight, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) have been tapped to star in Warner Premiere and Dolphin Entertainment‘s new teen-targeted multi-platform series Aim High.  Rathbone will star as teen government operative Nick Green, while Teegarden plays his love interest Amanda Miles.  The digital series will also star Rebecca Mader (Lost), Johnny Pemberton (Megadrive), Clancy Brown (Highlander), Jonathan McDaniel (That’s So Raven) and Greg Germann (Ally McBeal).  Aim High comes from director/producer McG (Chuck, Charlie’s Angels), Wonderland Sound and Vision, with production services provided by Bandito Brothers.  Peter Murrieta (Wizards of Waverly Place) will Executive Produce the series.  Mary Viola, Andy Shapiro, Rathbone, Bill O’Dowd, Jim Henrie and Philip von Alvensleben will also serve as Executive Producers.  The series is written and created by Heath Corson (Living with Abandon, Scary Godmother) and Richie Keen (Living with Abandon) who also serve as Executive Producers, and is directed by Thor Freudenthal (Hotel for Dogs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and produced by Lance Sloane (Yucatan) and McG.  Aim High is being financed and distributed by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and Dolphin Entertainment (Zoey 101, Tower Prep, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide).

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Luximation Films announces animation production has begun on the animated movie The Clockwork Girl.  The movie is based on the graphic novel by author Sean O’Reilly and published by his Arcana Studios.  The coming of age story revolves around Tesla a robot girl, and Huxley, a monster boy, as they set out on a journey to save the world.  The Clockwork Girl stars Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) as the voice of Tesla, Jesse McCartney (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Horton Hears a Who) as Huxley, and Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix, Chocolate), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Jeffery Tambour (Arrested Development).  Luximation Films was created by O’Reilly and producer Deboragh Gabler’s Legacy Filmworks.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Cartoon Network picks up new seasons of three of its Monday night animated series, Adventure Time, Regular Show and MAD.  Heading into its third season, Adventure Time (8p), is created by Pendleton Ward and executive produced by Fred Siebert.  The network’s original animated series Regular Show (8:15p) is created by J.G. Quintel and has been picked up for a second season.  MAD (8:30p), a Warner Bros. Animation original series based on MAD magazine, executive produced by Sam Register and produced by Kevin Chilnick and Mark Mark, has been greenlit for a second season.

Disney-Pixar‘s Toy Story 3 will be available on demand beginning this Thursday, December 2 via TV providers and various digital retailers.  Ahead of this, the first two movies, Toy Story and Toy Story 2, are currently available to rent on demand for a limited time.

The new music video, Happy Universal Holidays, a humorous celebration of the holidays performed by Zeke and Luther co-stars Adam Hicks and Ryan Newman, will debut on Disney XD on Monday, December 6 at 8p, following the Zeke and Luther holiday special (8:30p).  Also making appearances in the music video are other Zeke and Luther cast mates including Hutch Dano, Daniel Curtis Lee and Nate Hartley.  Additionally, Hicks and Newman will be on Radio Disney with Ernie D on Tuesday, November 23 at 6p, followed by a Planet Premiere of Happy Universal Holidays on Radio Disney at 7p.  The music video will be available via DisneyXD.com and the Disney XD YouTube channel beginning Monday, December 6, with the song available for download on iTunes from Tuesday, December 7.

ABC (Australia) inks a deal for Australia production company Galaxy Pop‘s preschool music-based series Rock It! to broadcast across the Asia Pacific region on ABC’s international broadcast service, Australia Network.  Under the deal, the series will be seen in 45+ countries in Asia, the Pacific and the Indian subcontinent, beginning December 6, 2010.  Rock It! follows the adventures of friends, Comet, Asteroid and Jack, who are accidentally launched into space when they discover an old rocket ship.  In space they make new friends and form a pop music group.  Rock It! ( www.rockittv.com ) currently airs in Australia on Network 10 Australia.

MARKETING/LICENSING

4Kids Entertainment International signs new licensing deals for Dinosaur King:

  • In the Netherlands Z Press launches a Dinosaur King section in Kr@sh magazine (really! that’s the name of the magazine!)
  • J.M. Inacio in Portugal signs on for a back to school line that will include bags, backpacks and trolleys, pencil cases, wallets and stationery sets
  • Poland’s Class Investment is launching a back to school range that includes books, bags, folders, wallets, rulers, pencil cases, pens, crayons, pencils, stationery sets, lunch boxes and water bottles
  • Egmont launched a Dinosaur King magazine across Sweden, Finland and Norway.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Ion Media Networks names John Ford is named President/Programming.  Ford, who will be based in NYC, will oversee all Ion Television’s content efforts, including acquisitions, exploring originals, scheduling and creative strategy and positioning, and growing the network.  Additionally, Marc Zand takes on the new and expanded role as EVP/Content Acquisitions and Digital Networks.  Working closely with and reporting to Ford, Zand will oversee the network’s TV series and movie acquisitions, while also continuing to lead Ion’s digital channels Qubo ad Ion Life.  A 30-year TV veteran, much of which was with Discovery Communications, Ford has served as President/New Media, Discovery Networks, President and GM, Discovery Times Channel and Military Channel, and prior to that as EVP/Programming, National Geographic Channel.
