Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 29, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.

Moonscoop steps into the tablet app arena as it also enters into a partnership with Lexibook, a creator/marketer of electronic devices and toys.  Under the deal Lexibook’s kid-targeted Android tablets will feature Moonscoop’s animated content exclusively.  The app, created internally at Moonscoop and Antefilms Studio, will allow kids to rent or buy episodes of popular titles in six different languages (French English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese currently) with 700+ hours of content available. Moonscoop shows featured will include hit titles such as Code Lyoko and Chloe’s Closet and cult classics including Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea.  The Lexibook tablet line is currently rolling out across the UK, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Italy with additional markets to follow.

LICENSING

Marvel Entertainment inks a licensing deal with JewelM, a division of the 1928 Jewelry Company brands, for a collection of Super Hero fashion jewelry and novelty items that will be based on the Marvel Universe characters including Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America and Iron Man and featuring retro character art and graphics.  Set to launch in spring 2012, the line will feature a range of costume jewelry and novelty items for women and men including body jewelry, belt buckles, cufflinks, pendants, bracelets, earrings and rings.

Cookie Jar Entertainment, and its licensing division, CPLG, are partnering with retailer Nordstrom to offer a line of Richard Scarry’s Busytown products aimed at preschoolers this holiday season.  All Nordstrom full-line stores and its website are featuring an selection of Richard Scarry’s Busytown products, including classic picture books from Random House; the Eye Found It! and Busy, Busy Airport board games from Wonder Forge; new plush, playsets, vehicles and figure packs from The Bridge Direct; fashion t-shirts for toddler boys from Mighty Fine; and The Busy World of Richard Scarry and Busytown Mysteries DVDs from Mill Creek Entertainment.  A Lowly Worm plush with DVD and playset is also currently featured in the Nordstrom holiday catalog.

V&S Entertainment, producer of the HD CGI preschool series Everything’s Rosie, signs a deal with poster company GB eye to release posters based on the series in the UK beginning January 2012.  Everything’s Rosie can be seen in the UK on CBeebies.  A third season of the series is currently in production and will air in 2012.  Other partners across a range of product categories for Everything’s Rosie licensing program include Vivid Toy Group, Egmont, NBC Universal, Blues Clothing, Brand International Group, Roy Lowe & Sons, TDP Aykroyds, VMC Accessories, Vogue International, Worlds Apart, Zap and Zeon.

Planeta Junior Italia inks a merchandise deal with publishing house Tridimensional for the animated Heidi brand.  Under the deal a series of Heidi themed coloring books, magic albums, games books, and other products will be developed.

Organizers of the Licensing New Europe Show & Conference (LNE) announce the 2012 show will be titled Licensing@Russia and will be held in Moscow on March 14-16, 2012 (venue TBA).  The new Licensing@Russia event picks up where LNE left off, promoting licensing in the New Europe region, which includes 35 countries and represents 400+ million people across Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe, Russia and CIS.  Licensing@Russia is being organized under a partnership between Creata and the Magnum Opus company.

MORE KIDS STUFF

BRB Internacional completes a deal for the kid-targeted short form, HD animated series Suckers with Canal Sur (Spain).  The series was also recently been acquired by Vrak (Canada).  A non-verbal slapstick comedy, Suckers (104×2) is co-produced by Screen 21, Genoma Animation and Televisio de Catalunya.  BRB Internacional distributes Suckers worldwide.  Suckers has just premiered on K2 Channel (Italy), and continues to be seen on Televisio de Catalunya’s Super 3 Channel (Spain), in the US Disney XD and will run on DisneyXD.com, and in several Latin American countries on Cartoon Network.

Nickelodeon will premiere a new episode of Nick News with Linda Ellerbee, What’s For Dinner? Hungry Kids in America, on Sunday, December 4 at 9p.  The edition features kids/teens who talk about what it is like to go without a meal because they have no food, as well as kids who want to do something about this situation.  The episode also features things that regular kids can do to help those in need.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment celebrates the 50th anniversary of the feature film To Kill a Mockingbird with the release of a commemorative Limited Edition Collector’s Series Blu-ray Combo Pack as well as on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on January 31, 2012.  Based on Harper Lee’s iconic novel, the movie has been digitally remastered and fully restored from high resolution 35MM original film elements, and the release will include 3.5+ hours of bonus features chronicling the making of the movie.  The Limited Edition Collector’s Series Combo Pack of To Kill a Mockingbird: 50th Anniversary Edition will include a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy of the film, packaged in a hardcover book featuring exclusive movie memorabilia including script pages with Gregory Peck’s handwritten notes, storyboards, poster art and much more.

  • Bonus content included on the Blu-ray and DVD releases includes: a feature-length making of documentary with cast interviews and a visit to Lee’s home town; a documentary with Gregory Peck; a look at the film restoration process; Peck’s remarks upon receiving both the Academy Award for his role as Atticus Finch and the AFI Life Achievement Award; Tribute To Gregory Peck; Mary Badham (Scout) speaking about working with Peck; commentary by director Robert Mulligan and producer Alan Pakula; and the original movie trailer.

RATINGS

Cartoon Network‘s premiere of Level Up, the network’s new original mixed live-action/CG-animated TV movie, on Wednesday, November 23, 7-8:30p powered in as the number one show in its time period among K6-11 (1,134,000) an increase of +148% over the previous four weeks.  The premiere was the top telecast of the day with Tweens 9-14 and in all boy demos.  In addition to K6-11, all kid, Tween, Teen and boy demos were up significantly over the previous four weeks:

  • K2-11 (1,409,000) increased by +112%
  • Tweens 9-14 (1,053,000) grew +175%
  • Teens 12-17 (443,000) were up +130%
  • Boys 2-11 (1,064,000) increased +116%
  • Boys 6-11 (885,000) grew +147%
  • Tween Boys 9-14 (834,000) up +186%
  • Teen Boys 12-17 (320,000) were up +139%

The new Level Up half-hour TV series is set to launch on Cartoon Network in January 2012.
