11.27.12

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 27, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
TNT: Rizzoli & Isles at 9p; Leverage at 10p

Tonight’s Finales:
ABC: Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars Results Show at 8p
Bravo: Flipping Out at 9p

Fans of detective drama series Sherlock headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman may have to wait for season three to premiere on PBS in late 2013 – or even early 2014.  Production on the third cycle has been moved from January to March and the reason, according to reports, is due to the stars’ busy schedules.  Cumberbatch is set to star in Star Trek 2 while Freeman stars in The Hobbit.  In the UK, BBC has not yet announced the premiere date for season three though fans there were hoping for a summer launch.  BBC may debut Sherlock in late 2013 and PBS is allowed to air the series after BBC’s window.

~ MORE STUFF ~

A new reality series that reinvents gladiatorial combat in the 21st century makes its way to Syfy when Robot Combat League premieres February 26 at 10p.  Hosted by WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, the series will feature tournament-style battles between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots controlled by human “robo-jockeys.”  Robot Combat League is produced by Smart Dog Media.

The current fifth season of drama series Merlin will be its last so says the Shine Group and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME).  Merlin launched last month in the UK on BBC One and airs in more than 180 territories worldwide.  The fifth season of Merlin, depicting Camelot at the height of its “golden age” has peaked at 7.1 million viewers airing on Saturday nights.  BBC One will air a two-part finale this Christmas.  Merlin airs on Syfy in the US.  Shine group and FME are also looking at potential new spin-offs of Merlin based on different characters.  Merlin was originally created and produced by Shine TV while FME is an investor in the series and holds the exclusive distribution (excluding UK), home entertainment and licensing rights to the series.

Animal Planet debuts a new season of Pit Boss on January 5 at 9p.  In the new season, the series continues to follow Shorty Rossi, owner of a Hollywood talent agency for little people and a pit bull rescue center.  Pit Boss is produced for Animal Planet by Intuitive Entertainment.

Sunday’s world premiere of the Lifetime Original Movie Liz & Dick starring Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler averaged 3.5 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.  The broadcast also averaged 1.3 million among A25-54 and also 1.3 million with A18-49 viewers.

Programming Note: The Weather Channel will air a special, one-hour episode of its franchise Coast Guard that chronicles the rescue of 14 crew members onboard the HMS Bounty during Superstorm Sandy.  Coast Guard: HMS Bounty Rescue will air December 5 at 8p with an encore at 11p.  The Coast Guard franchise is produced by Al Roker Entertainment and new episodes of Coast Guard Alaska will begin tomorrow at 8p.

Actress Bobbi Jordan, best known for her role as former nightclub owner and singer Terri Webber Arnett on ABC’s General Hospital, died at her home in Encinitas, CA on November 9.  She was 75.  Ms. Jordan spent three years on the daytime soap General Hospital and following that stint, she secured regular roles on the primetime comedies Turnabout and Joe and Sons.  Ms. Jordan also guest starred on such classic series as The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Wild Wild West, Love, American Style, Ironside, Barbary Coast, The Odd Couple, Charlie’s Angels, Diff’rent Strokes, One Day at a Time, Quincy M.E., Nero Wolfe and Highway to Heaven.  She also appeared in the 1974 film musical Mame which starred Lucille Ball.  Ms. Jordan is survived by her son, writer-director Jordan Roberts; a stepdaughter; two grandchildren and a sister.
