Cynopsis: Kids! 11/23/10 Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 23, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing. ABC Family inks a deal with Warner Bros. to acquire the final two Harry Potter movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. As with the pervious Potter movies, this new agreement provides ABC Family with the first position window for basic cable. The network will premiere Deathly Hallows Part 1 in spring 2013, followed by Deathly Hallows Part 2 in winter 2013. Warner Bros. will release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on July 15, 2011. NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT Director Ben Hibon, who served as animation director for the animated scene in harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, will direct the new fantasy action/thriller movie Pan, a social Capital Films and Energy Entertainment project, per Variety. Not likely for younger kids, the movie is based don a script by Ben Magid and is a dark adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, in which Captain Hook is a former police detective chasing a kidlike kidnapper. Nickelodeon will premiere the new Big Time Rush hour-long TV movie Big Time Christmas on Saturday, December 4, at 8p. The holiday special features three songs by Big Time Rush, and a special duet with Miranda Cosgrove of the song All I Want for Christmas is You, and an animated music video with Snoop Dogg featuring the original song, Let’s Stay In Our PJs (all Christmas Long), as well as a new holiday song titled Beautiful Christmas. The special also includes an appearance by Fabio as himself. Big Time Rush recorded also solo version of All I Want for Christmas is You that will be available exclusively on iTunes, Tuesday, Nov. 30, along with Beautiful Christmas. Nickelodeon’s new series the 2D animated T.U.F.F. Puppy and CGI animated Planet Sheen will join Chorus Entertainment’s Nickelodeon (Canada) programming lineup, premiering on January 5 at 6p and January 7 at 6p, respectively. Viewers can get a sneak peek at the two series, among other Nick programming, during a few preview Wednesday, December 15, 2010 through Monday, January 31, 2011. Available in 95% of Canadian homes with digital service, Nickelodeon’s free preview will be available to Rogers Personal TV (channel 231), Shaw Direct (channel 182), Shaw (channel 135), Cogeco (channel 142 in Ontario; channel 140 in Quebec), Videotron (169) and Bell TV (channel 559) subscribers. Canada’s Teletoon launches a four-week on-air and online campaign for Ubisoft‘s new Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time, a newly released Wii game, as well as a new set of Rabbid figurines. The on-air campaign includes :15 spots promoting a new broadcast Skatoony, a original Teletoon production, with an incorrect tune-in time when Rabbid appears onscreen and ‘fixes’ the time. In addition, billboards focusing on the collectible figurines will air on Teletoon and lower thirds ads promoting the game will run on Teletoon and Teletoon Retro throughout the promotion. The Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time game carries and ESRB rating of E 10+, for Everyone ten and older. Angelina Jolie is the newest woman of note to be featured in indie comics company Bluewater Productions‘ Female Force biography comic series. Female Force: Angelina Jolie (32-pages) will be available in January 2011. Other upcoming subjects for Bluewater’s bio comic series Political Power, Fame and Female Force will include Beyonce, Danica Patrick, Betty White, and Bill O’Reilly. MARKETING/LICENSING Spearmark International, a UK-based manufacturer of kid safe lighting and housewares, will produce new lunch products featuring video game star Sonic the Hedgehog. Set to release in fall/winter 2011, Spearmark’s Sonic products will include an insulated lunch bag and matching metal drink bottles, featuring an action shot of Sonic with his pals Knuckles and Tails. Three Sonic the Hedgehog titles are set for release next year to coincide with the character’s 20the anniversary. The Lego Group and Power A, a unit of Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (BDA), enter into an licensing deal under which Power A will serve as Lego’s exclusive video game accessory partner in North America. Power A’s buildable Lego licensed products, include the Lego Play & Build Remote for Wii, made with real Lego tiles, also comes with 31 additional Lego tiles so folks can customize their remote and is available exclusively at Toys ‘R’ Us. The remote is also compatible with the Wii MotionPlus, an internal speaker and larger buttons. Also coming from the Power A and Lego partnership this holiday season is a line of Lego Harry Potter video game accessories for Nintendo DS: The Lego Harry Potter Armor Cast Kit for Nintendo DSi, which includes a playthru case with Lego tiles with Harry Potter artwork and buildable Lego plates, a brick stylus and removable Harry Potter Lego Minifigure, two stackable Lego Brick Game Cases that fit one Nintendo DS game Card each; The Lego Harry Potter Play & Build Kit for Nintendo DS includes one Lego brick stylus with removable Lego Harry Potter Minifigure and two stackable Lego Brick Game Cases. Additionally, Power A and The Lego Group will introduce additional video game accessories for spring 2011, including a line for Lego Star Wars II: The Clone Wars video game. RATINGS Though not specifically targeted to kids and teens, ABC‘s airing of the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday, November 21 (8-11p), grew with those demos, during which Justin Bieber won four awards. Teens 12-17 (3.7) were up +12% over last year’s show, with K2-11 (2.5) increasing by +19%. The K2-11 viewership was the highest for the awards show in six years.
