HARRY POTTER CASTS ITS SPELL Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 22, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. As expected, CBS has picked up the back nine of Close to Home, it’s drama series which recently enjoyed two well-received weeks on Friday nights following Ghost Whisperer where it averaged a 3.2/10 among Adults 18-49, up two share points from its Tuesday time period. Additionally, following the why-mess-with-success theory, Close to Home will now stay on Fridays at 9p. Close to Home is from Jerry Bruckheimer and Warner Bros. TV. As for Threshold (Paramount Network TV) now airing on Tuesday’s at 10p, the show originally received a 13 episode order, and last month had three more scripts ordered. And on board for a third season will be NBC’s The Biggest Loser (Reveille LLC, 25/7 Productions, 3 Ball Productions and NBC Universal Television Studio). The show currently airs on Tuesdays at 8p and thus far this season has averaged a 3.6/10 A18-49 with 8.8 million viewers. Tonight’s Premiere: Tonight’s Finales: * MORE GOOD STUFF *Lifetime has picked up the basic cable rights of the NBC drama series Medium, from Paramount Domestic Television. Lifetime will begin airing the off-net series in 2009. Medium is from creator/exec producer Glenn Gordon Caron and is produced by Picturemaker Productions, Inc. in association with Grammnet Productions and Paramount Network Television. As of January 1, digital cable network TRIO will no longer exist – as a television service. Instead it will be re-launched as a broadband initiative under the BravoTV.com banner, designed to become the internet’s destination for arts and pop culture. TRIO programs – including Brilliant, But Cancelled, OUTzone and its various OTOs – all will be carried on the new alternative and exclusive platform. Fox Reality Channel has gained carriage on the Echostar DISH Network satellite service, effective immediately. A variety of off-net series are carried on the network, and as announced just yesterday, the channel has ordered its first original series Solitary. Solitary puts its players through a variety of personal punishments including solitary confinement and sleep deprivation. More clearances for King World‘s new syndicated daytime talker for Fall 2006 – Rachel Ray. The show has now been cleared in New York and Philadelphia, both on the local ABC stations, WABC and WPVI. Other clearances to date include KCBS/LA, WBBM/Chicago, WBZ/Boston, WTVD/Raleigh-Durham, WJRT/Flint, WTVG/Toledo and KFSN/Fresno. New York’s WB11, the Tribune-owned WB affiliate, will air up to 25 New York Mets games beginning next year. WB11 signed a three year deal with SportsNet New York (SNY), the new network set to launch this spring as home to the New York Mets as well as the NY Jets. The deal with WB11 also includes the local station carrying promotional messages on-air, in print and on its website. Financial deal points were not disclosed. The games will be produced by SNY, and providing play-by-play coverage will be Gary Cohen, SNY’s voice of the Mets. Verizon FiOS‘ second market to debut its 330+ channel service will be in Herndon, Virginia, outside of Washington DC. The service launches this week. The first market to carry Verizon FiOS was Keller, Texas which launched in late September. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *America‘s Next Top Model is headed north. The 10 x 10 Entertainment /Bankable Productions program has sold the format rights to Chum TV in Canada in a deal cut with CBS Paramount International Television. Set to host the Canadian version will be supermodel Tricia Helfer. Canada’s Next Top Model will debut in May, produced by Temple Street Prods and May Street Prods, in association with CBS Paramount Int’l TV and Chum TV. The search for models began yesterday in Canada. The U.K. version of E! Entertainment Television‘s The Soup will debut on November 25 during primetime. The new Celebrity Soup will be a weekly 30-minute program with comedian Iain Lee as host. It will air on Sky and NTL. Optimistic Entertainment and its CEO, David Brook, will exec produce the U.K. version. * EXECUTIVE MOVES *Lifetime Entertainment Services has named Trez Thomas as VP/Creative Director. In her new role, Trez will oversee all broadcast design for Lifetime Television, Lifetime Movie Network, along with Lifetime Real Women. She is based in New York and reports to Gerry Logue, SVP/Executive Creative Director. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has named Cheryl Daly as Director/Communications.
