Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 18, 2008 and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
HIT Entertainment and Merlin Entertainments Group have commissioned SD Entertainment and Threshold Animation Studios to debut the new 4-D movie, Bob the Builder and the Roller Coaster, exclusively at Legoland parks around the world beginning March 2009. The movie will premiere first at Legoland California and Windsor (UK) followed by other two Legoland parks in Denmark and Germany and Legoland Discovery Centers in April. The film will use animation developed by SD Entertainment and exclusive 3-D stereoscopic technology from Threshold Animation Studios and IBM.
Jim Carrey will narrate the new Imax movie Under the Sea 3D, the third Imax 3D co-production between Warner Bros. and Imax Corp. Set to release beginning February 13, 2009, Under the Sea 3D follows the 2006 G-rated movie Deep Sea 3D.
Warner Bros. has brought in scribes Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to write the movie adaptation of Robotech, the 1980s Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Productions‘ sci-fi anime series, per The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is set to star Tobey Maguire and Drew Crevello. Gough and Millar served as showrunners on the TV series Smallville for a number of years and together also worked on several movies including The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and Spider-Man 2.
MORE KIDS STUFF
A new holiday themed special episode of the preschool-aimed series Super Why! is scheduled to premiere on PBS Kids this December 9 (check local listings). Set in Storybrook Village on the night before Christmas, Whyatt has a question for Santa.
VIZ Media has unveiled a multimedia plan to provide an almost simultaneous release of episodes of the anime series Naruto in Japan and the US for free on www.naruto.com. Beginning January 15th the newest episode of animated series Naruto Shippuden (with English-subtitles) will be available at Naruto.com; this is just days after it bows in Japan. Moving forward, a new English-subtitled episode will be added to the site each Thursday. On January 2, 2009, VIZ Media will also debut 8 uncut, English-subtitled episodes (free) from the beginning of the Naruto Shippuden series on website. Each Friday thereafter there will be an additional 8 uncut, English-subtitled episodes added to the site until the series catches up to the current third season of the hit program. Also, beginning this week, Naruto.com will offer an exclusive sneak peek of Naruto Shippuden (English-subtitled). VIZ is also accelerating its publishing schedule for the Naruto manga series, making them available in North America sooner the before. From February 2009, 11 new volumes of Naruto will be released over three months (February April), and then returning to quarterly release schedule in July 2009.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Indie producer Novel Entertainment and record label EMI have signed an agreement to release a Horrid Henry record on December 1, 2008. With the exception of the title song from the TV series, the new Horrid Henry album features 18 tracks specifically written for the release, some of which are also including in the stage show Horrid Henry Live and Horrid! . In support of the new album, a single from the release is currently available on iTunes. Novel is currently in production on a second season of the 2D animated show for CITV with delivery slated for spring 2009.
Bulldog Licensing inks two new deals for the K4-11 targeted property, Gogo’s Crazy Bones, for the UK. Under the new licensing agreements, Robert Frederick will create a line of stationery items (e.g. artists sets, diaries, ring binders and storage items), while Woolworths will oversee a deal for a line of Gogo’s T-shirts set to be available from the end of this month.
