LICENSING
The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) and BSR, which focuses its efforts on corporate responsibility and environmental strategies, team to release the new free Good Practices for Complying with Licensors’ Social and Environmental Requirements: A Practical Guide for Licensees. The guide also aims to demystify the process by outlining ways licensees can improve working conditions in their direct and contract manufacturing operations and supply chains, as well as offering 30+ tips and resources. The Licensing Working Group brings licensors and licensees together to develop tools and resources to advance the industry in social and environmental practices and compliance, while also addressing the causes of non-compliance. What will you be doing on Thanksgiving night? Toys “R” Us is banking on many of us emerging from our turkey stupor to go shopping, as the toy retailer unveils plans for the first time ever to open its stores nationwide Thanksgiving night, Thursday, November 24, at 9p. Beginning Thanksgiving night and running through Saturday, the store will offer a range of discount deals, doorbusters, and free gifts-with-purchase. Consumers can get a sneak preview at this year’s Toys “R” Us Thanksgiving weekend circular (28 pages) at www.facebook.comtoysrus. Toys “R” Us is not the only retailer to have this idea, also planning to open Thanksgiving night are Wal-Mart at 10p and Target at 12a (which means workers would have to be in-store earlier) though Target employees are balking at the plan petitioning the company to open on Black Friday at 5a. If you are looking for me that night … I have reserved a place on our friends Ellie/Jeff’s sofa where my family and I will be dining as usual. The forklift doesn’t arrive until much later to remove us.
You know the holidays are really close when the Grinch shows up on the TV schedule! ABC will air Dr. Seuss’ classic 1966 animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas special on Monday, November 28 at 8p, followed by the newer DreamWorks Animation holiday special Shrek the Halls at 8:30p. The voice cast for How the Grinch Stole Christmas features the legendary Boris Karloff as The Grinch/Narrator and June Foray as Cindy Lou Who. Shrek the Halls features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas in the roles they created in the Shrek movies. Shrek the Halls is written by Gary Trousdale & Sean Bishop and Theresa Cullen & Bill Riling, produced by Gina Shay and Teresa Cheng and directed by Trousdale. Executive Producer is Aron Warner.

Funded through a grant from the US Department of Education, video description provides enhanced detail of a program’s visual content that is inserted during existing pauses in the show’s audio track. The addition of video description aims to make programming more accessible to a range of viewers including those with learning disabilities, autism, viewers who are visually impaired, as well as those learning English.
