~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

TV Guide Network has a new reality competition series in the works, America’s Next Producer giving up-and-coming producers the chance to win a prize package consisting of $100,000 in cash, a production office in Hollywood and a first-look deal with TV Guide Network. Contestants will be judged on their skill at creating both scripted and non-scripted TV shows and must survive each week through various rounds. Anada Lewis has been signed to host the ten-episode reality show and David Hill and Matt Roush will be the resident judges joined each week by a guest celebrity judge. The series is produced by Magical Elves.

Superstation WGN has purchased Whacked Out Sports for a two-year run, with back-to-back half-hour episodes on Sunday afternoons starting this fall. Whacked Out Sports, distributed by Mighty Oak Entertainment with 52 episodes, is a compilation of colliding cars, stunts and sports clips and bloopers from around the world. The program will join a family-friendly reality programming block on Superstation WGN that comprises America’s Funniest Home Videos, Funniest Pets & People and American Idol Rewind.

National Geographic Channel brings forth a new series that explores events in our modern history that turned critical in a matter of minutes. Critical Situation debuts June 12 at 9p with its first episode examining the Hollywood Shoot-out incident in 1997. Other episodes will follow throughout the summer.

NBC has given an early renewal for its drama series Medium for a fourth season in 2007-2008. So far this season, Medium has averaged a 3.0/8 among A18-49 and 8.5 million total viewers overall.

SCI FI Channel has unveiled plans to add a weekly anime programming block to its Monday night schedule. Ani-Monday will air from 11p-1a beginning June 11. The two-hour block will feature movies, series and shorts from Starz Media’s anime distribution unit called Manga.

RSN, the network that provides outdoor-focused content for resorts in America, has unveiled its summer programming highlights:

  • RSN Outdoors – new episodes offering warm-weather gear, fashions, sports instructions and interviews.
  • The Clubhouse – new episodes that center entirely on golf with tips, golf course reviews and gear updates.
  • Extreme Scenes – half-hour show with new episodes about various extreme outdoor sports.
  • RSN Presents – a programming umbrella that offers new updates on four shows: RSN Hot Spots, Thrill Seekers, Destination: Real Estate and The Goods.
  • Reel Thrills – new episodes about high-impact races and other championship events throughout the country.

New programs in development for RSN include a daily half-hour hosted by a former Olympic skier profiling current women in sports; and a half-hour series airing year-round that will focus on surfing and snowboarding.

TV One will debut two new series this summer as well as return two series to its schedule. The new series include:

  • G. Garvin: The Road Tour – begins May 20 at 8p and 830p with two sneak previews of this new half-hour series with host Chef Garvin on the road exploring new food trends in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta. The show will join the network’s schedule on Sundays at 5p starting June 3. The series is produced by Powerhouse Productions.
  • Stage Black – premieres in late July; David E. Talbert’s theatrical reality competition series will coincide with the playwright’s latest play “Love in the Nick of Time”. Selected from regional auditions, ten contestants will compete to win a role in the play. Judging the potential stage actors will be Blair Underwood, David Talbert and other guest judges. The eight one-hour episodes are produced by Edmonds Entertainment in association with David E. Talbert.

Returning series on TV One include:

  • Sharp Talk – the half-hour political and current issues talk show set in a Brooklyn barbershop with Rev. Al Sharpton is back for a new season starting June 10. The series is produced by Sweet Willie Films.

The 14 one-hour episodes are produced by Farcor Productions LLC.

Scripps Networks Interactive introduces two new social media areas: DIYnetwork.com’s My Projects which gives people a forum to share their work projects; and FineLiving.com’s We Live Here which presents an insider’s view about cities and towns. Both are added after the success of HGTV.com’s Rate My Space which has logged 14.5 million page views since its launch in late February.

The Nielsen Company and the In-Store Marketing Institute have joined forces to offer a new national service which will measure the size and composition of audiences for in-store marketing media called P.R.I.S.M. (Pioneering Research for an In-Store Metric). P.R.I.S.M. will cover all in-store marketing media which includes merchandising efforts, retail TV and radio networks, shelf-talkers, cart-talkers, digital signage and other point-of-purchase displays, using a sample size of approximately 200 stores. Some of the information will be refined further over the next six months and the first round of reach-and-frequency measurements will be released at the end of this year.
