Cynopsis
05/30/06
Good Morning. It’s Tuesday, May 30, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Yesterday in Iraq a car bomb killed two of the CBS News crew – cameraman Paul Douglas, 48, and soundman James Brolan, 42. Correspondent Kimberly Dozier, 39, who has been in Iraq for the last three years, was seriously injured and underwent two surgeries at a US military hospital in Baghdad before being flown this morning to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany where she will undergo treatment at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a U.S. military hospital. Doctors remain “cautiously optimistic” about her prognosis.
Tonight’s Premieres:
NBC: Last Comic Standing at 8p
FX: Rescue Me at 10p
* MORE GOOD STUFF *
Last week we got a new American Idol, the May sweeps ended, and many left early for the long summer kick-off holiday weekend. What does all that add up to? A synopsized Cynopsis today.
NBC has picked up another season of its daytime soaper Passions. The show debuted in 1999, and is currently #2 among W18-34 and W18-24, and in the even younger set, Passions is #1 among teenage girls.
Even before ABC premieres Betty the Ugly this fall on Friday nights at 8p, Reveille has picked up the rights to another telenovela Cafe con aroma de mujer (Coffee with the Scent of a Woman) from the same creator as Betty the Ugly, Fernando Gaitan. According to Variety, Reveille and Gaitan will adapt Cafe for a US network audience. The original has aired in Columbia, premiering in 1994 and ran for 160 episodes. The original story is about one of the heirs of the coffee plantation falling for a field worker.
Paris Hilton‘s first album she says will be a combination of Reggae, Hip-Hop and Pop. I knew you’d want to know.
Finale (a day early):
NBC: May 31 – tomorrow, is Katie Couric’s last morning on Today (if you didn’t read this until tomorrow, it may have been too late).
And a day late: Tonight’s Premiere
ABC: ABC World News Tonight with Charles Gibson – he actually started last night, but you may have been grillin’.
Paul Gleason, who many remember as Principal Vernon in The Breakfast Club, has died at the age of 67 after a battle with cancer. Gleason has appeared on numerous primetime series including Friends, Seinfeld, Magnum PI, Hill Street Blues and most recently on The George Lopez Show. He also appeared in more than 60 films including Trading Places, Die Hard, Revenge of the Nerds and due out in 2007 The Book of Caleb.

The History Channel presents This Day in History:
1431 – Joan of Arc was burned at the stake after playing a major leadership role in Hundred Years War, a bitter conflict between France and England. Joan of Arc was sent to her death in Rouen, France at the age of 19 after she was charged with being a heretic and a witch. Her reputation was vindicated in 1920 when she was canonized a saint by the Catholic Church.
Answer to Friday’s Trivia Question: What is the connection between The Jeffersons and Good Times? Lots of answers would have fit, but the most common responses were:
JANET DUBOIS PLAYED WOLONA ON GOOD TIMES AND SANG THEME SONG FOR THE JEFFERSONS,
MIKE EVANS WHO PLAYED LIONEL CO CREATED GOOD TIMES,
BOTH SERIES DERIVE WERE SPINOFFS FROM ALL IN THE FAMILY,
BOTH FALL UNDER THE NORMAN LEAR UMBRELLA!
Some funny ones though were:
BOTH HAD HUSBANDS WITH RECEDING HAIRLINES,
BOTH SHOWS WIVES LIKED THE NEIGHBORS BETTER THAN THE HUSBANDS, AND
ELDEST SONS ARE WITHIN TEN YEARS OF THEIR TV DADS!
Kudos to: ALL WHO RESPONDED WITH THESE GREAT ANSWERS
