Cynopsis: Kids!
03/23/10
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, March 23, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Aardman (UK) is teaming with Voozclub (Korea) and Screen 21 (Spain), a unit of BRB, to co-produce and distribute the new mixed CGI animated/live-action kids series Canimals (52×7), which will makes its debut at MIPTV. Canimals follows the adventures of a group of “can-shaped” CGI animated animals and the mischief, nothing quite goes according to plan, they get into within the live action world (e.g. kitchen, garden, schoolyard, greenhouse). Set to premiere at the end of 2010, Aardman will lead the scripting and voices for the series, with Voozclub and BRB managing the design, animation and sound production.
BBC Worldwide is launching three new BBC channels in Malaysia. The three new channels to the region, CBeebies, BBC Knowledge and BBC Lifestyle, will be available on Telekom Malaysia Berhad‘s (TM) IPTV customers via its HyppTV platform from March 29, 2010. TM’s IPTV service will be available to all their high-speed broadband and broadband subscribers free of charge from March through September 2010.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Reading Rainbow plotting a return? In a tweet last week actor LaVar Burton, the host of the series for its full 23-year run, said, “You heard it here first … Reading Rainbow 2.0 is in th[e] works! Stay tuned for more info. But, you don’t have to …”, per Huffington Post. Reading Rainbow, which both educated kids about reading, spotlighted books, provided kid reviews and encouraged kids to read for (dare I say) fun, ran on PBS 1983- 2006. For lots of folks, even those that don’t recall the series clearly, the theme song remains in their heads …
Butterfly in the sky
I can go twice as high
Take a look
It’s in a book
A Reading Rainbow
MORE KIDS STUFF
Sprout, the 24/7 multi-platform preschool service, and Decode Enterprises, the distribution arm of DHX Media, announce the exclusive US debut of dirtgirlworld, a green living series for preschoolers that aims to get kids up, outside, active and to “go get grubby” with the dirtgirl and her equally eco-interested friends. Sprout’s Dig Into Earth Day with dirtgirlworld marathon will feature several episodes of the series and air on Sprout on TV from 12p-3p on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22. Following its debut, dirtgirlworld will air on Sprout daily at 4:50p. Games, crafts and environment friendly tips for parents of preschoolers will be available on SproutOnline.com ( www.sproutonline.com ). Like it did with Dinosaur King, 4Kids Entertainment is adapting the kid-targeted Japanese series for release worldwide (excluding Asia). Tai Chi Chasers follows the adventures of Rai, a young orphan that finds he is a descendent of a race of peaceful beings, the Tigeroids, which are in an ongoing struggle in a parallel universe with the evil Dragonoids to recover 500 lost tai chi symbols. Those that possess the tai chi symbols will have the power to rule their realm.
