Cynopsis

03/21/06

Good Morning. It’s Tuesday, March 21, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Verizon FiOS TV and CBS have signed a retransmission deal covering analog, digital, multicast and high-definition programming from CBS O&O stations as well as the network, including CSI, NCIS and Survivor.  Verizon will reportedly pay CBS for the content, and while financial terms were not disclosed and a fee structure was not officially announced, it is being called an Retransmission Consent agreement by CBS. The Wall Street Journal estimates the fee will be in the neighborhood of 50 cents per subscriber. Verizon FiOS TV is now available in seven states.

Tonight’s Premiere:
A&E
:  Dog the Bounty Hunter at 9p
Bravo:  Blow Out at 9p, The Real Housewives of Orange County at 10p
Univision: Barrera de Amor at 10p

Tonight’s Finale:
FX:  The Shield at 10p
Spike:  King of Las Vegas at 10p

* MORE GOOD STUFF *VOOM HD Networks has launched Gameplay HD, a high-definition channel solely dedicated to the world of video gaming. The channel features news & information from the industry, original series & specials, and tournaments & competitions from around the world.  It also has a new deal with CNET Networks and Gamespot to produce two new series for the channel. GameSpotting, a half-hour series of news, reviews and previews, and CinemAddicts, an hourly series featuring video games as part of a story.

Starting March 27, Adult Swim, the edgy late-night block on the Cartoon Network, will begin at 1030p instead of 11p, Monday through Thursday. Adult Swim Fix will also expand its content on March 27 as a 24/7 online service with shows available for streaming and on-demand viewing.

Beginning today at 6p, Canadians will receive the MTV brand, in a multi-platform deal on CTV by MTV Networks International. The Six Arms of MTV will be launched in unison on various distribution levels such as conventional and specialty channels, mobile, VOD, and a premium broadband service. The MTV channel is immediately available in 6 million Canadian households via major cable and DHT services.

 * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Lifetime – who will have its upfront presentation this morning in NYC – has ordered six 30-minute episodes of a new reality series Election featuring political consultants James Carville and his wife Mary Matalin, who are also on the opposite sides of the political spectrum, as they participate in the backroom strategies of a high school election.  According to Hollywood Reporter, the series is produced by RJ Cutler and from Brillstein-Grey, and features two politicos acting as campaign managers for candidates running for student-body president at a school in Washington DC.  The series is expected to be added to the schedule this summer.

Casting Notes …

Thea Gill joins the cast of here!‘s original series Dante’s Cove for the show’s second season. Gill will play Diana Childs, a mysterious newcomer to Dante’s Cove. The supernatural soap’s second season begins production next month.  Dante’s Cove is the first original series on here! to be renewed for a second season.

The Fox comedy project Til Death starring Brad Garrett has added Joely Fisher as Garrett’s wife. This sitcom about one newlywed couple living next door to a long-married couple, has also cast Kat Foster as the newlywed wife.

CBS’ Company Town which you’ve heard already this week has added a Gary Cole and Catherine Bell, has now also added Esai Morales.

Elsewhere at CBS, the drama project Split Decision has added Steven Eckholdt and Susan Walters.  The story looks at two lives of the same high school girl – one as if she had sat with the cool kids that first day of school; the other as if she sat with the not-so-cool kids.

And joining the cast of NBC‘s daytime series Passions, is Brandi Burkhardt in the role of Siren, a blonde, ethereal beauty whose first appearance is scheduled for April 21.

* EXECUTIVE MOVES *Steven Fisher has been named VP/Communications and Public Affairs for Logo, reporting to Lisa Sherman, SVP and GM.  Steven is responsible for the implementation and management of all communication strategies for Logo and its related on- and off-channel businesses. He will also develop Logo’s public affairs, pro-social plans and strategies.

Lightworks Enterprises has named Alfred Russo as Finance Manager and Controller, reporting to David A. Dreilinger, President/CEO.  Alfred will have overall responsibility for all finance and accounting functions for LEI.
