Cynopsis: Kids!
06/05/12

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, June 5, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Just a few days until the first annual Cynopsis Kids !magination Awards – very exciting! I am looking forward to seeing longtime friends and meeting those of you I don’t know too, and together, and celebrating the 10th anniversary of Cynopsis Kids. Please make sure to make your way over to me and introduce yourself. If you haven’t registered yet go to http://www.cynopsis.com/events/kids-awards.

Marvel Studios has begun production on the newest Iron Man feature film, Marvel’s Iron Man 3, in Wilmington, North Carolina. The production is also set to shot on location in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, Miami, Florida and China. Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man three is scheduled for release in the US on May 3, 2013. Based on the popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, Iron Man 3 returns Robert Downey Jr. as Super Hero Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Gwyneth Paltrow returning as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard and Dan Mintz. Marvel’s Iron Man 3 marks the second feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

The folks at Facebook are reportedly working on technology to let kids 13 and younger use its social network under the supervision of a parent, per WSJ. This new technology would tie a younger kid’s account to their parents’ account – thus allowing the parent to know and approve, or not, of what their kid is doing on Facebook and potentially charge parents for various games and apps their kids use. Facebook has always, and continues, to block those 13 and under from signing up. By developing a way for these tweens and younger kids to “officially” take part on Facebook there could be new revenue opportunities. “Officially” because kids/tweens are savvy (read: lie about their age) and there are plenty of under 13s who are on Facebook.

LICENSING

Nerd Corps enters into a licensing deal with Jakks Pacific for its new boy aimed, animated sci-fi, action/adventure comedy series Slugterra (39×30 and 39×1 online “Slugisodes”). Under the agreement, Jakks Pacific will manufacture, distribute and market a line of toys based on Slugterra, which is slated to premiere on Disney XD in fall 2012. The new line includes action figures and accessories, vehicles, playsets, role-play, novelties and plush items. Jakks plans to launch the K6-11 targeted Slugterra product line in North America beginning spring 2013.

This week marks the launch of D3Publisher (D3P) and DreamWorks Animation SKG‘s new Madagascar: Join the Circus! In the game players help the Madagascar characters and their new friends build the world’s greatest circus. DreamWorks Animation’s newest Madagascar feature film installment, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, opens in theaters this Friday June 8, 2012.

These new deals build on the worldwide Pocoyo licensing program, which includes 200+ partners. New Pocoyo branded merchandise set to launch at retail beginning summer 2012 through 2013 includes a series of books from Random House, apparel from Bentex, party goods from Buy Seasons and new DVD titles from NCircle Entertainment.
