Mondo TV enters into a co-production and distribution deal with TV operator Russian Mobile Television (RMT) for a new 2D animated series based on the classic Russian property Cat Leopold. The first season of the series will include 13×13 episodes. Mondo TV will serve as executive producer of the series and, further to the contribution by RMT to the production budget, it will share the revenues from the exploitation of the series worldwide across all media and the distribution of licensing and merchandising. Mondo TV and Mondo TV Consumer Products will be responsible for audiovisual distribution (TV and home video) and licensing and merchandising worldwide (except for Russia and US), respectively, for a period ending five years after the first broadcast in Russia.

LICENSING

Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA names toy manufacturer/distributor Giochi Preziosi as the master toy licensee for Tom and Jerry in Western Europe and Turkey. Under the 3-year pact, Giochi Preziosi will produce a complete toy line that reflects all the mischief, chaos and fun of the world’s most iconic cat and mouse duo. The toy range will include basic Classic Chaos and deluxe Tag Team figure assortments, Madness Mayhem play sets and Whack and Win action games. The European roll out will begin in Q4 2012 and will continue throughout 2013. Continuing to create products of kids of all ages, Glynn Davies, Category Director Toys and Games, Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA explains, “We look forward to working with Giochi Preziosi as we develop Tom and Jerry’s position as a leading unisex pre-school brand.”

Character Options partners with Turner CN Enterprises in the UK to launch a new Character Building construction line based on Cartoon Network’s popular Ben 10 franchise. The deal incorporates all Ben 10 seasons, including new series Ben 10: Omniverse, which will debut later this year and features new aliens and bad guys. Set to debut this fall 2012, the toy line will include eight collectable construction micro-figures, featuring characters from the series, including Ben and popular aliens such as Big Chill, Water Hazard and Ultimate Swampfire. Each figure will have five or six separate components that can be interchanged with one another, allowing kids to collect and build their own creations. Additionally, the initial line will include a Kevin’s Car construction playset and a functional Azmuth’s Laboratory large playset with 430 bricks.

Rocket Licensing is tapped to represent the internet phenomenon The Annoying Orange in the UK and Ireland. Rocket Licensing is developing the UK licensing campaign across a range of merchandise including toys and gifts, apparel, amusement plush, backpacks, headwear, housewares (specifically kitchenware), apps, digital and physical games and, of course, novelty gifting and accessories. Created by Dane Boedigheimer, in addition to the success of The Annoying Orange on YouTube, where it has 1+ billion views, Cartoon Network launched The Annoying Orange TV series earlier this month. Negotiations are currently underway for a local broadcast partner for the new series in the UK.

Spain-based Imira Entertainment appoints CLPG as the licensing agent for its 2D animated series Lucky Fred (52×12) in Benelux, Germany and Italy. Imira is currently implementing a merchandise strategy to support the new series, specifically focusing key categories such as toys, publishing, apparel, and stationery, as well as for promotional and marketing efforts. Imira recently completed its first publishing partners for the brand, with Editorial Planeta (Castilian version) and Grup 62 (Catala version) for the release of sixteen book titles between 2012-2014 including electronic books. Targeted to K6-12, Lucky Fred is a co-production between Imira, Televisio de Catalunya (Spain) and RAI Fiction (Italy). Imira is also rolling out the Lucky Fred cross-platform app, which features a web and mobile-based interactive geo-localized aliens hunt. Available via the Apple Store and Android Market, the app includes multi-layers, collectibles from the series, puzzles, and series news and earn daily rewards, among other things.

Millimages appoints Sweden-based agent Early Bird Licensing to manage its preschool 2D animated property Mouk (62×11 and 30×1) in the Nordic countries. Early Bird will be responsible for licensing and retail opportunities for Mouk across apparel, accessories, stationery, toys, home decor, and other categories. Based on the books by Marc Boutavant, Mouk is produced by Millimages and directed by Francois Narboux. The series revolves around globetrotting pals Mouk and Chavapa, who explore the world on their bicycles. Mouk is commissioned by France Televisions and Disney Channel UK, and was recently acquired by ABC TV (Australia).

MORE KIDS STUFF

Sprout welcomes Mario Lopez (Extra, Dancing with the Stars, ok and Saved By The Bell) to the cast of its upcoming new original series, The Chica Show, where he will lend his voice to a character named Stitches. Premiering exclusively on Sprout later this year, The Chica Show is a mixed live action and animated series, starring Chica the Chicken, the host from Sprout’s hit The Sunny Side Up Show. Viewers can also tune-in to The Sunny Side Up Show on Friday, June 29 at 9a when Mario will make a guest appearance. The new preschool show follows he Chica the Chicken and her friends as they explore the costumes and accessories in the Costume Coop, a shop where Chica helps her parents. When it closes, she and her friends transform into animated characters and set off on adventures modeling teachable lessons and solving problems.

British Sky Broadcasting (UK and Ireland) acquires the exclusive 2D and 3D TV rights for the upcoming TV series Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventure (26×22) from 41 Entertainment, Namco Bandai Games and Arad Productions. The new Pac-Man series is salted to debut in fall 2013.

Cartoon Network will premiere the second season of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu on Wednesday, July 18 at 8p. CartoonNetwork.com will launch an exclusive Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu game, Spinjitzu Snakedown on Monday, July 2. In the game, the Hypnobrai are attacking, to defeat them players must choose Cole, Jay, Kai or Zane and battle the rise of the snakes in this action packed game. If players make it to the end they’ll fight Lord Garmadon himself. The series is based on The Lego Group’s Lego Ninjago toy property.

Zodiak Kids’ Tele Images Productions plans a second season of the animated series The Basketeers. Broadcasters M6 (France) and Disney XD France have ordered the new season (26×26), for a total of 52×26. A Tele Images Productions co-production with I Can Fly, the new season will head into production in September 2012 for a fall 2013 delivery. In addition, Tele Images Productions and M6 Interactions also welcomes new licensee Turbocar, which will launch a line of car and bicycle accessories aimed at kids. Zodiak Kids has competed sales for first season of The Basketeers including ZDF for the German Public channel KiKA (Kinderkanal), Canal Panda (Portugal), Canal+ (Poland), Pop TV (Pro Plus, in Slovenia) and RTS (Switzerland) that has acquired both seasons. The Basketeers follows a team of five teen boys and girls, led by NBA All-Star Tony Parker, play the international street basketball tournament in various countries all over the world. Zodiak Rights owns worldwide distribution rights to The Basketeers, while the licensing rights are held by M6 Interactions.

Ruckus Media Group unveils the worldwide English language releases of three digital interactive storybooks based on Sinking Ship Entertainment‘s Dino Dan TV series. Ruckus’ mobile iReader story apps are available for the iPad. Targeted to K4-8, Dino Dan focuses on dinosaurs and explores how to use of scientific methods to identify and problem solve in everyday life, while also providing parents with a digital report card as to how their kid is doing with their reading skills. The Dino Dan Ruckus Reader iReaders are designed to match age-appropriate standards determined by the Common Core State Standards and reinforce national educational standards for preschool through second grade. Dino Dan airs daily in the US on Nick Jr.

Beeline Interactive and DreamWorks Animation SKG release the new game app, Shrek’s Fairytale Kingdom, for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The game features Shrek and his world on quests in four settings from the first. Players jump into the fairy tale world where they find Shrek, who is always seeking a little solitude, attempting to outfit his Swamp. But…  things don’t stay quiet for long as the creatures of Far Far Away invade his space and Shrek sets out on a journey across the Kingdom. Players make their way in the game by building, decorating and customizing the four areas with characters, buildings and items from the films. In order to gather the resources needed to build and decorate the domains, players will have to go on quests with Shrek and the other characters to recover items. Players can also enlist friends for in-game bonuses as well as play a various mini games themed around events in the movie.

CloudMom (www.cloudmom.com), a new online video resource focused on baby’s first year co-founded and hosted by Melissa Lawrence (mom of 5) launches this week. The site features 100+ videos shot in her baby’s nursery, offering new and expectant moms a baby survival guide including practical and step by step demonstrations covering all the first year needs and advice – registry essentials, breastfeeding advice and developing sleeping habits for baby. She also takes questions. The videos are co-produced by co-founder Deirdre Michalopoulos, former Sr. Managing Editor of ABCNews.com. Lawrence previously served as an attorney for HBO.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

UK-based animation studio Factory TM appoints Neil Court, former founding principal of DHX Media (f/k/a Decode Entertainment), as its new non-executive Chairman. Court join the company’s board along with former Cosgrove Hall executives Managing Director Phil Chalk and Director Vince James, who founded the company in 2010. Factory TM aims to leverage Court’s kid business experience to help build the its intellectual property ownership, as well as advising on international co-production deals across TV and digital media. Court recently announced his chairmanship for the factual venture Peacock Alley Entertainment. Court also previously served as Managing Director of Nelvana Enterprises, where he co-founded the international distribution and co-production division. Factory TM’s credits include Strange Hill High, a production for Fremantle Media and CBBC, Tumble Travels for CBeebies, Chapman Entertainment’s Raa Raa The Noisy Lion, Roary the Racing Car and Fifi and The Flowertots, Muddle Earth for CBBC and Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band.

RTL Group appoints Oliver Fahlbusch to head RTL Group Corporate Communications as SVP/Corporate Communications & Marketing. Fahlbusch will report to Anke Schaferkordt and Guillaume de Posch, Co-CEOs of RTL Group. Fahlbusch joined RTL Group in 2006 as Deputy Head of Corporate Communications. Fahlbusch previously toiled for Bertelsmann AG’s Corporate Communications department for six years, eventually serving as VP/ Media Relations.

Jerome Delhaye is named Director/Entertainment Division of Reed Midem, a Paris-based organizer of international exhibitions, conferences, and networking events. Delhaye, who has been with Reed Midem since 2005, will oversee the business and strategic development of the Entertainment Division, which includes content events such as MIPTV, MIPCOM, MIPJunior, MIPCube, MIPFormats, and MIPDoc as well as MIDEM, dedicated to the new international music environment (music, tech, brands, artists). Previously, Delhaye worked with the Boston Consulting Group in NY and Paris. Laurine Garaude, Director/Reed Midem Television Division, and Bruno Crolot, Director/Music Markets at Reed MIDEM, will report directly to Delhaye.
