Correction: In yesterday’s edition George Carlin’s name was misspelled and we regret this error as he truly was an icon of American culture and humor. Additionally, we wanted you to know what HBO has schedule in honor of Carlin’s comedy legacy – the premium network will air encore presentations of many of his HBO specials. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, HBO2 will air 11 specials back-to-back in primetime starting with George Carlin at USC (1977) at 8p and ending with his latest special It’s Bad for Ya (2008) on Thursday at 1a. It’s Bad for Ya will also re-air on HBO this Friday at 9p.

The date for TV Azteca‘s launch of its new exclusively telenovela channel has been set for July 1.  The international pay-TV Azteca Novelas channel will mainly focus on North, South and Central America with additional European broadcasts to be made in the future.  The content will be pulled from the Mexican conglomerates 12,000+ hours of telenovela programming.

~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: After holding back on joining Hulu and largely avoiding syndication of its video content, ABC signed a deal with Veoh Networks to make full episodes of prime time shows available on Veoh.com. Offerings include Desperate Housewives, Lost and Ugly Betty along with originals from ESPN. Users who discover a show on Veoh will actually pull up the Move Networks-powered ABC player to watch the video pre-sold ads, furthering a sort of Trojan Horse strategy centering around control of the delivery platform. (ABC will pay Veoh for the traffic it drives to the site.) Disney is even considering distributing video on Hulu and YouTube in the future, according to The New York Times. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORYRC2 Corporation, a US-based toy company, inks a deal to acquire the Children’s Publishing Division (CPD) of Publications International, Ltd.  Under the deal RC2 will pay US $163 million in cash for CPD.  CPD publishes 10+ million kid’s books each year, including electronic books, story books, Story Reader and Poingo, many of which are sold at toy stores as well as book retailer in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  The U.K.’s ITV Worldwide has divulged more details about its first Asian pay-TV channel to be officially launched later in 2008.  The channel will be a rebranded/localized version of Granada International’s UKTV channel in the Middle East.  The company’s Hong Kong region headquarters will be in charge of the launch and operations with content brought in from ITV’s library, including shows such as Eleventh Hour and Ballroom Bootcamp.  Asia Broadcast Satellite’s ABS-1 regional satellite platform will be the initial carrier of the preview channel, which debuted yesterday. Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
