Cynopsis: Kids!

06/22/10

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, June 22, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Fanlala.com ( www.fanlala.com ), the tween/teen targeted interactive online community, launches its new original production, Fanlala at the Movies, on its site this Friday, June 25, with the first episode featuring Debby Ryan (16 Wishes, What If).  Then, beginning July 1, Kabillion ( www.kabillion.com ), the multi-platform kids’ network, will offer the episode for one month on Fanlala’s branded VOD channel.  The first three episodes of Fanlala at the Movies are presented by Taste of Nature’s Cookie Dough Bites.  The following two episodes of the series, featuring Matt Prokop (High School Musical 3, Furry Vengeance) and BooBoo Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) respectively, will debut monthly at Fanlala.com and will also be available on Kabillion VOD for a month, on July 1 and August 1.  The Fanlala VOD channel is available to 20+ million digital cable TV subscribers.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

DQ Entertainment enters into a co-production deal with Neo Network, a digital entertainment of Zodiak Entertainment, to produce The Qpiz (52×2.5), a HD 2D digital animated TV interstitial and multi-platform series.  Targeted to Girls 6-12, The Qpiz revolves around a group of fashionable super heroines who work tirelessly with a sense of humor, though not always successfully, to solve the romance troubles of others.  Neo Network is setting up pre-production on the series, while DQE will produce the animation and Zodiak will handle distribution of the series.  Italian pubcaster Rai’s satellite pay-TV offering RaiSat have already signed on for the project.  Additionally, The Qpiz will include a website, Facebook activities, and online game, with several licensing and merchandising deals in the works.  Zodiak Entertainment is a subsidiary of De Agostini S.p.A. and comprises more than 40 production companies operating in over 18 countries around the world.

Disney casts mostly unknowns to star in its new live-action comedy movie Prom, per Variety.  No doubt filled with all sorts of “proma” (read: prom drama), the movie is said to star Thomas McDonell, Aimee Teegarden, Danielle Campbell, Nolan Sotillo, Yin Chang, Jared Kusnitz, Nicholas Braun, Ben Esler, Kylie Bunbury and DeVaughn Nixon.  Some of the cast have some credits to their names including Teegarden appearing on Friday Night Lights, Chang on Gossip Girl, Braun on 10 Things I Hate About You, Kusnitz on Surviving Suburbia and Esler on The Pacific.   Joe Nussbaum (Sydney White, American Pie Presents The Naked Mile) is directing Prom from a script by Katie Wech.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Could you unplug completely for one week?  Could your kids?  Nick News with Linda Ellerbee follows three tech addicted 12-year-olds, nominated by their friends/family, as they totally unplug for one week in Middle School Unplugged, a half-hour special premiering Sunday, June 27, at 9p on Nickelodeon.  Just to be clear … that is no cell phones/smartphones, i-anythings, computers, MP3 players, video games, TV or radio.

Disney-Hyperion, an imprint of Disney Book Group, will launch author Rick Riordan‘s (book series including: Percy Jackson and the Olympians; The 39 Clues; Tres Navarre series; among others) new book series The Heroes of Olympus this fall.  A follow up to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the series takes readers back to Camp Half-Blood and features new characters, as well as some from the Percy Jackson series.  The first title in series, The Lost Hero, will be available from October 12, 2010.  Fans can check out the newly unveiled cover for The Lost Hero as well as the first two chapters of the book on www.camphalfblood.com .
